i just installed a mercedes pump for on board air in my rockcrawler. can usually pick up pumps on craigslist, if you want a nice one get an ARB from a rock crawler site.
do you just like the noise all the time or something? 70mph in 3rd on the freeway? do you know how a manual gearbox car operates, or do you warm it up at all before doing 50 in 2nd? you don't *have* to change up or down at a particular RPM all the time, it depends on what you're doing or how...
i posted these links in another A/C related thread, very good how-to video's that explain AC systems and how to charge them etc..

yeah my '98 has the exact same issue, the piece is also sitting on my workbench waiting around. I too shyed away from the ~350+ dollar fix for a new bit, i'll probably try the liquid nails approach.
yeah damn economy, it made me not buy the twin turbo subaru manx buggy I was going to last week.... the gods of fiscal responsibility (and my wife complaining that she can't get into the garage as it is) are having their effect!
on one of the first drives after I bought mine i left the cap on top of the pump about 30 miles away. Remembered it 20 mins after I left the gas station, was pretty annoyed with myself.. all my other cars have the 'attached' type of caps so stupid people like me don't leave them behind
yeah I wouldnt be selling right now. You're competing in a market flooded with v8's, trucks, and other gas guzzlers that people are low-balling and buying, its just a buyers market for big engined cars. Try finding a clean, decent milage honda civic for a 'steal' price and its much harder.
my dog wont get out the pool
even if he did, the jeep is the only thing he gets in, along with the dirty mountain bikes, skis, and camping stuff. forget the viper.
i know i make all my decisions based on what other idiots that i'll never know think about me and/or my car. I would spend thousands too just making sure that they can't tell their retard friends that they chopped a viper. (even though they'll say that anyway). The most important thing to me is...
yeah exactly. mine is mounted on the parcel shelf behind the headrests. i didn't put it there but i might move it as although its solidly mounted and i can reach it while in a 5 or 6 point i don't want it coming loose and going out the windscreen through my head if i run into something stationary.
yeah AC repairs are not to be undertaken lightly. Best bet it to at least get a shop to recover the refridgerant before you take anything apart at home, its illegal to vent R12 ot R134A.
I've just been through this on my other cars, here are some great videos on A/C workings, troubleshooting...
