Sounds like a great build. I would love to work with you on a clutch setup, done numerous. How do you like the higher first gear in the transmission? Is is just right to get the turbos?
One neat option is a short stroke engine, its been done and I drove a street car like this that was just amazing. With a much broader 7500rpm powerband you have a lot of area to work with.
With a good short block, solid cam, light valvetrain and a budget external (wet) oil pump system, this can...
We shoot for 190-210 cranking compression with a 228/232 cam, 114 intake centerline. It requires a recalibration. If the engine has less than 190 cranking compression it does not make good peak power numbers. The cam you run and where it is centerlined make a big difference. I tuned a car with...
The early Vipers did not use a muffler bearing, but 92-early94 used a spring and conical washer mount for the rear muffler hanger that often made noise. You can change to the later rubber mounts or fabricate some muffler bearings and hangers, JC Witney sells those. :)
Hey Bruce,
It seems like it makes good sense to run a bigger front tire, but if the Gen 5 reacts like the Gen 4 the smaller 295 front tire is better. We tested all the sizes and found that the 295 has plenty of grip on the front, it is lighter and lets the car steer and transition better, the...
The Gen 1 cars tend to run hotter than the rest. There are numerous things that can push it over the edge. Feel free to call me and I can go over this, there are quite a few things to check and numerous things you can do to improve the cooling system. 310-597-6295
Hi Everyone,
With no Gen 1 fuel pump modules, fuel regulators and sending units available. Would anyone be interested in a group buy of an aftermarket module that would not only be more reliable but would support much more power?
It all depends on your year model and the set you have. There are 5 differing types depending on the application. Gen 1-2 you MAY need to machine the rocker stands, modify the valve covers, get new pushrods or just bolt them on. Gen 3 you will need to get valve cover spacers and new pushrods...
FYI,
A few years back I was racing at Willow Springs. We stayed at the track in the transporter, working on a car we had to have ready in the morning. I left 4 new Hoosier R6's outside that night so I could sleep in the back of the semi. It got down to about 20 degrees that night. Next day when...
I posted this some time ago and its kind of interesting. We had a 2010 ACR racer with full header system that wanted to go to Laguna Seca to run, but noise is a big issue there. We installed the crossover system off the 03-06 car on it hoping it would quiet it down, but figured it would suffer...
You want to make sure the left throttle body leads the right. Mopar sells a kit to lock the cables (just 2 screws). Gen 2 has a locked system with a single cable. No need to adjust that.
I will be doing a back to back G5 header test in 2 weeks. We did install a set of ARH headers and high flow cats on a 2013, car runs great, we will be testing that car as well.
I will also be testing a G5 with our new ported heads and Corsa exhaust, no headers. I will post up the results.
Sounds like you have cracked exhaust ports, that was an issue on the Gen 2 ported heads that had excessive core shift. I have had this repaired in the past without any issues.
Just a note, those Girodisc's are nice rotors. I used them on German cars with good success. They are $950- per axle $1900 a set. Partsrack can do better than that.
There is much to consider here. First off, standard one-part rotors are production stuff. Durable and well made (OE). If you want your brakes to have a little more bite and work better in really wet conditions, you can have them slotted. The slots get the pad heated quicker when cold and clean...
Re: Gen 4 & 5 Straight Line Performance from late 90s Viper without idle quality loss
Great Info Eric,
We always change to the later Gen 2 injectors and change the calibration for this combination on Gen 1's. Have you done this?
Gen 1 cars can perform like 4-5 cars at the dragstrip!
With modified cars an inspection is really the best way to go. You never know how it was put together. First see if you can get a build sheet for the motor. If the car seems sound and everything looks right. Spend a couple hundred dollars, have a leak down done on the motor, drop the pan and...
Boy there are many options and sound is very subjective. What one person likes another may dis-like. I have installed them all, happy to give an unsolicited opinion without a sales pitch.
