Personally, I think this whole thread is a bit overdone. I will however, add my two cents. 1) I have spent a lot of time in Canada and find Candaiens, in general, to be very fine people of excellent character.
2) While I agree this is a great country, and I am proud to be a citizen, I have also traveled enough places in the world to know this ideal is not commonly shared by very large portions of the world population. Sure, they love our movies and the whole hollywood thing, but our politics and our economic exploitation are resented heavily in many areas of the world, and rightfully so. Just because we are americans does not make us right and in my opinion, George W is a ***** and is endangering years of environmental gains, has trashed the economy and continues to be clueless about finding lasting solutions to some very tough world situations. We learned in Viet Nam that our ideals, and even our system, will not necessarily fit other cultures and while we must be hardline against real aggression and terrorism, the Iraq war is a terrible lie and is going to divide this country, cost many many lives and ultimately do more harm than good.
I know this is a car board, but still feel compelled to rant a bit at the America is right "just because we are great" ideal.

Well, here's another 2¢: There is no economic exploitation. The economic exploitation was by the french and russians who exploited the iraqi people to line their own pockets with oil money. We are resented for our power, and wrongfully so, and have been since we liberated France in WWII. The war in Iraq has cost very, very few lives, has done a great deal of good and the only lie about it is why the UN resisted it: the corrupt oil-for-food program. The environmental claim is bogus: Bush has done nothing to endanger the environment at all. As for the economy, Clinton and 9-11 trashed it; Bush has done a wonderful job of bringing it back. The economy is currently good and getting better, and it was bad and getting worse when Bush took office.

As long as we're offering our 2¢.

You're right. It was fortunate we learned our model would not work in Vietnam, and as a result did not intervene in Cambodia. just think of all the mouths we would have too feed now? If they would have just allowed abortions to begin with, as it works so well in our culture, the millions wouldn't have had to be post-birth aborted. THANKS DEMOCRATS!! :2tu:

Meanwhile, in outer space,

They said it couldn't be done but we did it.

Tonight, we made the Enterprise pop a wheelie in outer space.

It's a LOT harder than you might think. First, there are the actual physics involved. It ain't like taking yer average Honda 750 out on the back roads, running the engine up to maximum revs then popping the clutch and jamming the gas at the exact opportune moment thereby laying a patch five hundred yards long while going vertical on your back wheel....nosirree.

For starters, I didn't even know the Enterprise had wheels until Scotty told me about the landing gear. Hell, we never landed the thing anywhere...we always took one of the orbiters so you will just have to forgive me for being in the dark on this one tiny matter.

Then there was the small yet challenging fact that we are in friggin outer space with nothing under us but zillions of miles of pure black space. How in the name of all that is good do you get any kind of traction when you are floating in zero gravity?

Having lived in california the past 15 years, you hear a lot from the liberal dummycrats and their twisted, ridiculous views.

Riverflyer, YOU are an idiot for ripping our great president, and our country. George W has been exactly what this country needed and we need another 4 years to try and right some of the wrongs your goofball Clinton did to this fine country.

Don't think your going to rip a great man on this site and get away with it dummycrat.

You may have noticed I have not resorted to calling names here, I just said W is a *****. His speeches are an embarrassment and I truly hope he is not reelected as I don't believe he is a good leader. This is my opinion and hardly means I am an idiot. That is one of the parts of our country that makes it so great, we are all allowed our ideas and the right to express them, unless of course, you, Mr Cratica, are rewriting that part of our constitution.

My 2 cents. Iraq is better off today than under Sadaams regime.

Sadaam was the most dangerous leader in the middle east.

1. Invaded Iran and fought an eight year war that cost 1-1.5 million lives between the two countries.

2. Invaded Kuwait that would have thrown the world economy in dissaray if WE hadn't stopped him.

3. Has killed thousands of his own citizens mostly civilians with fun things like Nerve gas.

Sadaam was a mini ****** with a splash of Stalin thrown in. Most Americans have never been to the middle east and talk about how what we are doing there is wrong. I was just in Iran for 5 weeks. It is a corrupt hellhole and the civilians hate it and hate teh regime but will be "taken away" if they do anything.

It's easy to sit back here with the charmed life we have and a starbucks at every corner and say that we shouldn't interfere.

Anyone against the war should go to the Middle east for two weeks and you will come home and march for the war.

River you are right that there is free speech which you chose to express on a Viper forum about "lung" wanting to exhale some of his experiences with a vette. But then Cratica thought he would give you a piece of his mind which likewise is his freedom. However, this thread was about some hotair let out by "lung" and not a political agenda defending your views. As for Cratica's reply I think you deserved it by showing your colors. What do you expect slamming your Pres.(by the way calling someone a ***** is just the same as calling someone a dummycrat)like you did in your post. My suggestion is that we stick with the thread title and express our political views on an other forum that cares about those things. Saying that I am pasionate about my political bent but will refrain from boring everyone with my opinions and on this forum will try to stick to the subject at hand (except for this one post). hehe

Ken, you are probably correct. My Dad, who I love dearly, and I have never seen eye to eye on political matters and have learned it is often best to "let the sleeping dog lie". And although, I did not start the political commentary aspect of the thread I agree to let it go. Sometimes, though, some very good thought provoking ideas can come out of such discussion if everyone remains respectful and really tries to listen. We ALL tend to believe we have the right track but truth is usually broader than we see it, and it can be very interesting to hear others ideas about more than cars.
I must admit, I don't seek out politics on the internet as I know a lot of passionate political thinkers who are always happy to engage, but do not know a lot of passionate viper owners or ferrari owners, as there just aren't any in my area, so car boards are much more fun that political boards!!
BTW, I have been to Tauranga, and love NZ, so I bet we can agree on that at least!!

Riverflyer - Thanks for your polite response and I agree that discussions about issues are fun to debate but sometimes are futile because of our disposed bias. Sounds like your dad might have some good political views, remember the old saying "father knows best". (hehe)
Yes, Tauranga is beautiful and anytime you are down in this area email me and I will gladly have you over for dinner and a tour of the local attractions.
BTW another thing we agree on is our taste in cars. Maybe the only difference, I have the SRT-10 and from the looks of your avatar you have the Gen II series. However, great cars no matter what generation so from that point maybe all can agree.
