Will this work... a 06 coupe SRT tranny in a 2000 RT/10. I may have struck a deal for a tranny that Woodhouse in NE says will fit.

Can anyone advise ?

It will fit fine, but the speed sensor for the speedo on your car is in the tailhousing. It will have to be drilled in the 06 tranny to work. Woodhouse should know how to do it.

Instead of drilling into this very expensive transmission, can't we just take the back end of the 2000 transmission and bolt it onto the back end of the 06???

A little like Frankenstien... what a monster I'm working on over here :lmao:

Lemme see if I get this...... Woodhouse says it will fit, and you want a 2nd opinion?!?!?

(If your lead strikes out we have a good deal on an 06 tranny, under 100 miles on. We can chat again Monday AM!)

:lmao: Monday - Woodhouse is going to check and double check with some of their race guys... just to be sure.

I am using all of the VCA valued vendors on this project. This is my first major project and another VCA member is in on it with me. Together this is our first venture, so thanks to the guys providing a helping hand and plenty of advice along the way. Another thanks for the patience in dealing with the younger generation :2tu:

What would be nice is to engineer the new TR-6060 transmission in the 2008's into the gen 2....stronger, better gearing and triple cone synchros...

RobZilla, I'd ask all the questions I could, just like you are doing, even if a reputable person first says it fits. They are honestly reporting on the feasibility of the swap, but not necessarily covering each and every little detail. Often the issue is not whether it fits or not, but what issues you might encounter in the course of the swap. Such as speedo sensors......

I'd like to do that also.
Swap out my ****** T56 for that much-refined, bulletproof 2008 model. Sounds like a great idea.

It should be here later this week, so things will start moving quickly once that happens. Ill post pics and some final thoughts once I'm back on the road with it.

BTW this is the worst part of Viper ownership, the down time. :(

The swap was completed only a couple of weeks after the first post. With a new clutch and slave cyl, it's been working strong since.

The swap was straight forward. I took the rear housing of the tranny from the 00 and the 06 and had a great machine shop tap the spedo hole and thread holes on the side to plug in my sensor. Used the 00 bell housing from what I remember.

Trans fluid change and back on the road.

You can machine the 06 extension for the speed sensor and add the tone ring to the main shaft and it will work. We do this quite often when upgrading earlier cars to the 9310 steel gear set used in the SRT10 Ram and 05/06 Vipers.
Swapping the 00 to the 06 trans requires a bit of machining for the one piece cluster bearing.
