Look what was just posted on YouTube (see the link to the 2nd video in other thread):

"This (video) was taken at Virginia International Raceway. That was Car and Driver's guy performing the laps. The 2008 Viper ran more that a full second quicker around the track than the Z06 C&D had tested there several months earlier. And keep in mind that when the Z06 was tested, it was much cooler with much less humidity. It was evident that given the same weather conditions, the Viper could have stretched the lead by 2-3 seconds."

One second is quite the @$$ whoppin... especially with a handicap of bad weather conditions. Reminds me of the Top Gear comparison of the Viper where it ranked below all these other cars... but the Viper qualified IN THE RAIN.

Question for the moderators of this site:

Hypothetically, if someone was present at a magazine road test of the 2008 Viper but was neither employed by the magazine doing the testing nor Chrysler, would this site's rules or the current press embargo on the 2008 Viper apply? Going further, would this still be viewed as "bad form" and make things tense with the VCA or Chrysler? Thanks for your input.

Not sure exactly what you're asking (in english), but keep in mind, my post is redirecting folks to something that was written by somebody else on YouTube. If it's already been said on YouTube, it's out there. ... or, we can pretend we didn't read it here, and be the last to know about it (after everyone else on YouTube)

Actually, what I am getting at is this: I have been in e-mail contact with Viperhigh who posted the video and comments regarding the testing of the 2008 Viper at VIR. Viperhigh was present and has additional information/impressions of the car and I asked if he could share them with me so I could post them on this site. I want to be sure, however, that posting this information is ok with Viperhigh's employer as well as Chrysler and the moderators of this site. While I would love to get additional info, I don't think it's worth Viperhigh losing his job or us getting heat from Chrysler or the VCA for information that will ultimately be revealed anyway in a matter of days/weeks.

I don't think the moderators and thus the VCA have an issue with this. HOWEVER, we are double checking with our friends at Chrysler (side note: As they are no longer "DCX" do we call them "CC" or something else?).

No, Chrysler doesn't run this website. Nonetheless, they are very generous with the VCA (check out the latest raffle car to get an idea) and we do not wish to encourage anything that would violate their embargoes. "You scratch my back and we will scratch yours" kinda thing. And I don't know of any other manufacturer that scratches their owner's backs as well as CC. :D

Thanks for the response. After hearing privately from a respected member of this board, I have contacted Viperhigh and he will check with his employer this week to see if his disclosure of information is acceptable. If it is and Chrysler is also ok with it, I will post his comments. Otherwise, I tend to agree that even if this falls into a grey area of confidentiality/embargo, I would rather err on the side of caution and not divulge the information. As I have said before, this information will be made public in about two weeks, so it's just not worth the potential hit to Viperhigh's employment or the goodwill shown the VCA by Chrysler.

Let me know what our friends at Chyrsler think. Thanks again for looking into this.

I personally think this, make us wait stuff is crap...we are the potential customers, not the stupid car rags who will eventually hate the Viper (again...think it is low quality, low tech, etc...) Why not give us the scoop, we are the supporters? Frankly I own three Chrysler vehicles and will continue to purchase them as long as they listen to our needs (more power :2tu: ).

My guess is that in this particular case, there are TWO embargos that are of issue:

1) Dodge's embargo on any magazine tests (which may, or may not still be in affect)
2) C&D's copyrights to all the facts involved in this specific test

If the magazine can't publish it until a specific date, we will be subject to the same "embargo". A matter of fact, it might work against our friends at Dodge if another media source (read: Us!) was offered an earlier "publication date" than those glossy mags.... especially if the information was "sponsored" by a magazine (in other words, if C&D or Motor Trend or Road & Track BUILT the comparison using their drivers, their test equipment, and their track time..... they truly do hold "the key" to distribution of those facts)

Just my humble opinion.

Hmmm, maybe in the "Members Only" section?

At this point I would leave it alone. Less than two weeks until the embargo is lifted. No need for anyone to get screwed......

I'd say less than a week. Also, R&T has the '08 Viper as one of the "Top 20 new cars for 2008" and the Snakeskin/black combo is on its cover.

But don't go running to their site looking for numbers (although there are a couple pics of it that make it worthwile)... they haven't posted anything else from what we know.
