11.08 @ 132.7 in the ACR and run against a GT-R

Took the ACR out to the track again and ran a best of 11.08 @ 132.7 MPH, here is the video of that run, hold your reaction time comments, I was going for the launch, didn't care about the C63 next to me.. :)

I also ran a GT-R heads up which was a very interesting race.... We both hit the same 60' time, 1.78, but the GT-R blew right by me at the 1/8 mile, trapping a full 7 MPH faster and picking up 3/10ths. Then on the back half of the track the ACR holds tight and ends up trapping higher than the GT-R, picking up 34 MPH vs 27 MPH for the GT-R. Here is the video:

Nissan GT-R and Viper ACR

A "normal" 1/8 mile trap for a clean run in a 133 MPH car is usually in the 104-105 MPH range..... Is the gearing in the Viper that bad on the low end? 1st gear seems to take forever to get through....

I had a couple friends out that night, heard one of them got to run you a couple times. No competition for the viper yet but its a cool car. Bolt-on audi TT-S, was hitting low 12's.

Man that GTR really starts pulling half way down the track. I bet the ACR downforce is slowing you down. If it is making 1,000 pounds at 150, it definitely is building downforce quickly from 80-130. My guess is it would be a pretty close race if it was a regular coupe.

Yes it does. Bone stock.(but traps only 114-115mph) I am going to drop in BMC hi flo filters and primary muffler bypass and hopefully 11.9. It is the 'S' model.
Very predictable and reproducable numbers with the PDK transmission and launch control. But not half as fun draggin' the Viper!

man that thing is nearly as fast as your 2005 SRT10...Id guess 119-121 mph and 12.0-12.2 for your 2005 SRT10..

Seeing as he removed the wing for these runs, I doubt it's at 1000 lbs anymore;).

I personally don't think so. I think the standard ACR is 40 lbs lighter and half of that weight is from unsprung rotating weight. The brakes are lighter and the wheels. This along with he removed the spoiler, and the acr has stickier tires would in my opinion not make a regular coupe faster but very slightly slower.

The 911 (with launch control ) lays down consistant 1.8-1.9 60' with no wheel spin).

I have my Lambo Gallardo at Heffners getting the full build. Should get 1200 1300whp on race. Hoping for 1000 at the tires on pump.

Pleeeeeaaaase post pics when you get it back. I absolutely love that car. They just had an article on it in CAR and ******. Very impressive!

Yea...Running 11's in a srt10 is a science..Even with 459 rwhp froma roller rocker/KN filter upgrade I only squeaked a 11.9 at 121 mph...1000 feet elevation though..

Was your srt10 100% stock on the stock tires and what was your trapp speeds if you recall...THANKS

yea, the TT-S was nice.... I remembered that car, I ran him in my 335ic last time out and he smoked me... :)

Great runs! I LOVE the fact our Vipers are basic and bad to the bone...but....the newer trannys in some cars make all the difference. I was running my 2009 911 Carrera S at the track last fall and it was running 12.2's all day long stock...with a lousy 385hp...wanna know why....the PDK tranny is absolutely incredible. ZERO...I mean, ZERO lag in shifts. Being a dual clutch the next gear just sits in the wings and waits for the shift. It also has launch control. I am not knocking the GT-R but our Viper is certainly handicapped for drag racing!

Car had green filters, smooth tube and water deflector removed.
121-122mph...?? I drag all my cars and forget which is which.

Wish I could take credit but with launch control it is a no brainer.
On that run believe the 60' was 1.93..was in October...would have to go fishing for the slip, will try to find. Sorry no vid. Here are some pics

Been trying to figure out how a GT-R with probably 100 less rwhp but 350+ pounds more weight goes faster than the ACR on the drag strip. At first you would say with the lesser trap speed on the Nissan and AWD vs. RWD that it is all in the launch. But them you hear that the 60 foot times where a dead heat. Started to learn about the GT-R (thinking about selling my GTS and SRT-8 Jeep and getting one now that they are getting less expensive used - but that is another story) and I think I see what this is all about - and what is the saddest part of the Viper story - gearing.

I believe the height of the tires is close so that is not much of an issue. The Viper has the ridiculous 3.07 rear gearing, and the Nissan has a reasonable 3.70, but, it is the transmission that I think makes the difference:

Viper Nissan
1 2.66 4.056
2 1.78 2.301
3 1.30 1.595
4 1.00 1.248
5 0.74 1.001
6 0.50 0.796

The Nissan's granny first gear taking advantage of the traction of AWD does not do it - we know that fromt he tied 60 foot times, but look at the mid-gears. The Nissan does not have a straight 1:1 until 5th instead of the Viper's 4th. The Nissan has an extra gear advantage in the quarter mile. I'm guessing those closer ratios along with the seemless shifting is where that huge mid-track charge of the Nissan comes from.

I am always pimping shorter 5th and 6th gears for the Viper. I still maintain that if the Viper had 3.55-3.73 rear end gears plus the T6060 gearing of the ZR1 it would be the greatest American car ever built by a long shot - but the super-tall gearing takes a lot of thunder away.

DOUBLE clutch! There is NO lag time at all between shifts. Nothing but power to the tires. With an old school tranny you loose time even if you are a pro. Thats why a Veron is so crazzzy fast double clutch:drive:

Don't forget gearing can be changed in the viper easily! :drive:

And that's exactly what I'm doing on my Gen 4. :D

First, I'm getting the 5th and 6th gear changed to .80 and .63 then

Don't the 5th and 6th gear you have to change through the tranny? How is this done is it easy? How much is this mod?

I sheared teatheoff my input shaft years ago so my T-56 needed to be rebuilt. I found a great guy in town to do it for $1500 + $500 for R&R. At the same time he did the .80 5th and .64 6th for an extra $1000. That makes it sound like a $2k mod from scratch inthe modern day. But wow is it an improvement. It basically gives you the ZR-1/CTS-V gearing.

I have not seen any proof on this forum that different gears from stock make the viper any faster at the strip..
Viper k recently made this post over on the Gen II board:

with stock gears i ran 12/20s in 1/4 mile with the 355 went 11/62

Of course when you are talking about very fast cars a need to shift from 4th to 5th before the quarter mile would change the equation, but assuming the run could be done in 4th it does not make any sense shorter gearing would not help.
