this would be an incredible color for a viper (IMHO) anyone know if the powers that be are still keeping this paint color more secure that fort knox or is it available for public use?

Was that DuPont "Chrome Illusion"? (sp?)

There was a poster here that had his Viper painted with that color changing paint. Don't know what happened to him. Victim of Nasdak?

How do repair shops do body work and paint on that car if they don't know the paint color?

The mystic cobra was a cool paint color... BASF manufactured it. Believe it or not, if you used the $50-for-a-little-thing-of-touchup paint, it blended right in and you couldn't tell. something about the chemical properties of it...

It was pretty cool.

I used to own a 1996 Mystic Cobra. The body shops knew the paint code... but Ford had an exclusive on the paint and if a 1996 Mystic Cobra needed body repair the body shop had to have the VIN for the car to document that it WAS a Mystic Cobra.

At the time I worked as a Claims Manager for Nationwide Insurance. We had a retired Claims Manager who wrecked a 1996 Mystic.... right in the driver's side quarter panel.

The body shop repaired the panel... and just spot painted the repair.... you could not see the repair. It blended perfectly.

Last I heard a year ago.. Ford still owned the exclusive rights to that paint and you still could not purchase over the counter for use on a vehicle other than a 1996 Mystic Cobra.

However... BASF and DuPont both have similar hues for sale over the counter.
