I am looking to buy a 1998 GTS Viper. The owner says it is a venom edition. What is the difference from a stock 1998 GTS to a venom edition? I don't believe it is a [******]. It think it is a factory venom edition.

How did the owner answer that? Does he say if is a "Venom 500 or 550, or 600, or 650, or 700, or ???
There was no factory venom edition.
1998 did have special edition called a GT-2 that was white with blue stripes and a wing on the back.

Of course, Marv is correct. There is no 'factory venom edition.' "Venom Edition" was coined by a well known and once-respected tuner whose very name the VCA no longer allows to be spelled here correctly.
((Reminds me of Pharoh Rameses in "The Ten Commandments": "To speak the name Moses in my presence shall mean Death. The name Moses shall be stricken from every tablet, monument, and obelisk." ))) Drums pounded. Don't ******** the Pharoh.............Back in 93~~99, the Venom figures actually meant something HP related. Then, Moses' people were starving for HP, and Lot's of Car-bible magazine tests applauded Moses and his HP miracles. Moses had cast down his staff and turned it into a 650 HP snake! Pharoh Lutz even annointed Moses at VOI-1.
After 1999, the figure 600, 650, 700 often allegedly reflected only the MINIMUM amount of dollars, in hundreds, that was allegedly scammed. (ie V-650 meant that $6500 was allegedly scammed. If it was Yen, add a factor of TEN.) Moses had apparently succumbed to to black magic in his own miracles.
So, what was the question again? 1998 Chariot, er um GTS? Go For It !
