I have searched threads reguarding the 2" seat lowering kit. I have one I installed over a year ago and the height is perfect. The problem is that it leaves you pushed forward and leaning back. Now I am determined to figure a way to get this seat all the way back. I figure before I start though I should ask if anyone has done or had custom work to get the seat back. I understand why they made it the way they did because of wrenching the bolts down in the back but I am determined to overcome this issue one way or another :D Even if I have to plate and bolt through the floor farther back and extend the front rails of the Kit. So has anyone done this or other? :dunno:

I made 2 plates for the front to raise the seat a little over an inch. I did this as the seat seemed a little flat and did not provide enough support. This may address the issue for you as well. My Viper is in hibernation right now, but I might try to go out for a quick spin later today and could take a picture for you.

Yea Mark J. mentioned doing that too but my problem isn't as much the legs (thats some issue) but it is my arm is too bent when turning on the track. when I turn my elbow will hit hit the console or nearly hit it. I dont believe I have ape arms or anthing and im only 6ft tall. Just not happy with the forward leaned back position. I like upright, back and low to the ground. Would like to see pics of what you did on the seat though. ;)

There is an "unsafe" (relative term) way to modify the original seat track that will allow you all the way back and still sit upright. I have done this in my own car but will not for anyone else for liability reasons. It works VERY well and has great support with working seat sliders! I'm 6'-2" by the way.

Look at the seat track and how it is assembled. Think how could I get the back lower? Look long enough and you will "see" it as I did.

Thanks I will dig it back out of storage and take a look! I understand the safety aspect but considering the seat is just that a seat and not holding me back in the event of a crash im not too worried (I take the risk entirely). I just want it secured solid, low to the ground and all back.

Oh cont rare, The seat belt IS attached to the seat bracket so if it tears loose so do YOU!

I posted some pics on how I lowered my seat track while retaining the seat angle. I also posted some pics for a 3/4" drop by cutting the spacers from the seat and welding the attaching bolts to the seat frame and use short bolts instead of the seat track. Illustrated upgrades ...

Nope. Seat belts attach to the inside of the tunnel and inside of the rocker panel with the upper retractor attached to the frame in front and above the gas tank, in my cars at least. All my 'extra cars' have the shoulder strap attached to the door pillar.

I plan to use the Child Tether Anchor bolt to attach the shoulder harness of my 5 point restraint system (unless I add a roll bar).

With the OE SRT Viper 3 point seat belts, the inside portion of the seat belt (with the red release button on it) attaches to the seat itself as Mark says above....

Racing harnesses are as you state, attached to the tunnel and inside of the rocker panel.

A Gen 3 change? vert, coupe or both?

Red button short strap in Gen2 is bolted to door sill in my 01 GTS.

Thanks, learn something new every day.

Yea Gen III has the belt on the chair. I was able to fix the 2" seat kit with very little issue and simple ingenuity. I used a cold steel 1/4 plate 17" long by 3" wide with 3/8 x 1" grade 8 bolts. The plate uses the OEM anchors to hold it down. Any way I feel It is well over engineered on the safety side of things and it got the seat 1.5 inches back and solved my seat issues. Sweet setup for sure! Thanks for the input everyone!!

Ted-
Gen 3 have the seat belt going the "correct" way, unlike your GTS!

PBR

I see. That would be illegal in a Gen 2. Laws require that seat belts needed to be "attached directly to the frame structure." Must have done some frame redesign for you guys. My anchor bolts are 7/16"(13/16" head) shaft and standard seat holddown bolts are 5/16" (1/2" hex head). Yours must be bigger.

Never thought to look at that before in a Gen 3.

I want to see the exhaust Xover under the Gen 3 floor because there sure isn't any room for anything 'Xtra' to fit under my Gen 2 floor. Gen 3 has raised floors I guess?

Thanks guys,
Ted
