interesting..
If you took it to your dealer, did they test anything else? Radiator? Hoses? Fan? Does your fan kick on when it gets about 220 or so? Fluid level ok (sorry had to ask)? I would take it back to them and tell them to give it back to you when it's fixed..

Without being too derogatory because I have no idea which dealership you are dealing with, but it sounds like they have no idea what they are doing.

Just saw your response and saw that Sean had taken a look at it. If he saw nothing wrong with the system, there must be an internal problem. If there was something that was ordinary like burping, Sean would have spotted it.

There were some problems with 2001 water pumps using plastic impellers. The pump would turn but the impeller inside the pump would slip on the shaft and free spin. There were several here (do a search) with that problem, worth checking out. The cars do run hot and the stock cooling system is not the best but many track their cars with stock cooling systems and it seems to work OK for them.

SLITHRN,

Have your dealer check the water pump, I understand that
DC went with another vendor for the pump and the impeller is now
a different material to the shaft and has been known to be a weak point in the YR 2001-2002 cars.
My Viper Tech Ted May told me about this, fortunately, I have a yr 2000 car that had the older water pump.

If you need to talk to Ted you can find him at: www.Valayaracing.com

Just to make sure the everyone understands the problem. Did the over temp. just start? If yes, something changed and that something meeds to be found. If your dealer will not or can not find the problem and the zone DC rep said it is okay, you have one choice drive it and if it blows get a new motor under warranty. But I would double check the water pump. It would not be the first time a new component was found defective. I had a new oil cooler installed in my 97GTS and it leaked when the motor was started by the tech.

I would ask the tech if the Star center has put him on the phone with the Engine Warranty center so they can get involved with this.If not have him call back and ask for them to do this. They can do a 3way call and make things go much easier.Call me if I can help out any Tom Sessions 910-799-4210 8:30-5:30 D@E Dodge Wilmington NC

Lets see.You buried the temp gauge and a warning light had to come on before you shut it down. You did shut it down didn't you?Did you turn on the heater full blast to try to cool the engine sometime before meltdown temperature? What was the oil pressure gauge saying while the temp was soaring?Has your attitude at the dealer been fix it or stick it?Please take some advice. You do not belong in an exotic type vehicle. Its not for you or your temperment.Go get yourself a nice sporty car to drive.Or better yet a sporty looking pick-up truck. You will be much happier. Good Luck, Bruce

Here's a hint - you are probably not going to get the best level of help available when you come to a Viper site already talking about Lemon Laws and crappy service... Many VCA members have been helped WAY before a VCA member's level of frustration has reached the point that you are at.

Have you worked with your local club? Zone officer? Different dealer? Used the resources of this board and your local club before drawing your guns???

We'd all like to help - and it appears that you have gotten some SOUND advice to fix your car - from others who have had the same problem to Viper Techs offering thier services via phone.

We really want to help - but it doesn't appear that you want help fixing the car anymore, but help strong arming D-C.

Try the second water pump change - its worked before...

Good luck!!!

Using the Lemon law is like pulling a gun! Put the gun back in the holster and use the resources that have been suggested.

From my experience DC goes the extra mile to service Viper owners. Most problems have two sides to the story!

"Another example - Front brake squeal problem."

High Performance brake pads tend to squeal depending on temperature etc. Some after market pads may work without a squeal and with less dust. My S500 pads squeal at times. I do not believe there is a brake squeal problem. Consider the squeal the sound stopping power!

My guess is the real problem has a lot to due with attitude!

Hope you get a satisfactory resolution to problems.

READY........SHOOT.......AIM ! Gee, my foot hurts........

Water Pump Impeller. Twice? Simple.
Burping the car after job one? Simple-tricky.

Shooting a mouse on your own foot? With a bazooka? Contra-indicated.

If you feel its the way to go then go for it. I understand you point about paying for quality and service and expecting to actually receive it. If you do happen to get DC to reclaim it though please let them know there's a punk kid in DE who'll give them a really low bid on the bad car.

Janni,

Based on the way I've had to treat my wife to ensure my hobbies contiune, my plate might as well be HER ASP. And it wouldn't refer to the Viper...

Hey SLITHRN, we drove together to the Daytona VCA meeting with JMcGuire, Keith and the rest of the Jax posse. Sorry to hear of your troubles.

Try Viper Tech Ken Albert at Garber in Green Cove Springs 264-2416, he works on my snake as well as JMcGuire's and other's and he worked on my Prowler for 3 years... he's thorough and very owner friendly. People bring their cars to him from all over the state. He went to Miami with me to check out my Viper before I bought it. He's the real thing and has done NOS and supercharger installs as well.

He is coming over to my house (off San Jose Blvd in mandarin) tonight 3/22, we are changing all the fluids in my Viper, why don't you come over and let him look at your car??

I had the EXACT & I mean EXACT same problem years ago when I had a 97 GTS. My car would always overheat! I'd be stuck on the side of the road w/ fluid gushing out of the car. I tried everything there was to possibly try. I went to 3 different dealers and they all would say that it was perfectly normal! They'd all say that there was nothing to fix! It was a nightmare! I couldn't even turn the AC on it got so bad. Whenever I'd turned the car on the temp. gague would go straight to the yellow! None of my friends were having this problem. I was forced to sell it & buy another. Ever since, I've had no problems. My last 2001 when driven in 100 degree heat would never even look like it was going to overheat. I recently sold that one and bought another 2001 and sure enough, in only 85 degree heat, the temp gague started to seriously climb on me! To levels that my previous 2001 had never even seen. Never had a problem in the exact same 2001 I sold but this one seems to be different or something. I thought I was the only one. I've barely put 50 miles on the new one & it's in surgery right now but when I get it back....I guess we'll see.

I did a buyback with Chevrolet on my 2001 ZO6. Was burning a quart of oil every 400 miles. They were great about it. Didn't have to go Lemon Law route. Glad you got your buyback. No one should have big problems with a brand new high dollar car like the Viper.
