Jeff,

Is your car an 01? Maybe the waterpump?

Will give you a call

2001 and early 2002 had problems withn the impellars(plastic) spinning on the shaft. Many owners during these years have experinced this problem. I have been there and done that.
Car was 5 months old and 1000 miles on it when the water pump was replaced.

When you're cruising, what speed / gear and RPM are you running at?
Do you typically cruise at 3,500 rpm, higher or lower?

this was posted 30 days ago but now he says it has been an unsolved problem for 4 months:

"DAN CRAGIN IS GREAT TO DEAL WITH AND VERY HONORABLE!! THE SHOP AT DC PERFORMANCE IS CLEAN, SPACIOUS AND EXTREMELY WELL RUN..

THEY NOW HAVE A NEW DYNOJET ON SITE!! HOW MANY OTHER VIPER TUNERS CAN SAY THAT?! ( 2001 RT10..424HP @ THE WHEELS)

MY 2001 RT10 WAS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH CONSTANTLY RUNNING VERY HOT...(3/4 OR HIGHER ON THE GAUGE...( \ | / | )

DAN BENT OVER BACKWARDS AND HE DID EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO CORRECT THE OVERHEATING PROBLEM (WATER PUMP,THEROMSTAT, BURPING ECT) UNTIL HE DETERMINED THE ENGINE HAD OTHER PROBLEMS BECAUSE IT WAS USING TO MUCH OIL AND HAD TO BE REMOVED AND SENT TO ARROW FOR A REBUILD.. (ARROW FOUND DEFECTIVE LINERS THAT HAD MOVED.. ONE UP .OO15 THE OTHER DOWN .0045 PASSING COMBUSTION GASSES)

AFTER THE ENGINE FINALLY CAME BACK FROM ARROW THE CAR STILL RAN VERY HOT!

I WANTED TO PULL MY HAIR OUT (ALL 12 OF THEM) BUT DAN STUCK WITH IT AND FINALLY FOUND THE PROBLEM ..A DEFECTIVE NEW THERMOSTAT..

THE CAR RUNS MUCH COOLER NOW AND IS A BLAST TO DRIVE (IM STILL PLANNING GET AN UPGRADED RADIATOR)

AT DC PERFORMANCE YOUR VIPER WILL ALWAYS BE TREATED LIKE THE SPECIAL CAR THAT IT IS!

NOT LIKE AT THE DODGE DEALER WHERE YOUR VIPER IS OFTEN LEFT OUTSIDE!.. SITTING BETWEEN A NEON AND A MINVAN WAITING TO GET DINGED AND FILTHY..

THANKS AGAIN DAN,CHRIS AND TONY FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP!!"

fixed or not fixed that is the question? are you coming here to yell at us and see what we will do or do you actually have a problem?

WILD BILL,

FOR THE FIRST FEW DAYS AFTER I GOT THE CAR BACK IT SEEMED LIKE IT WAS FIXED...
THAT WAS WHEN I WROTE THE POST..

BUT THEN IT STARTED TO RUN HOT AGAIN...DAN RECOMENDED A LARGER RADIATOR..WHICH I HAD INSTALLED ..

BECAUSE OF THE REPEATED PROBLEMS DAN HELPED OUT BY DISCOUNTING AN OVER-SIZED 3 ROW RADIATOR @ $550...

I HAVE ALREADY TRIED 2 DIFFERANT PCM AT $500 EACH AND ALSO A NEW THERMOSTAT,SPECIAL COOLANT+ WATER WETTER WITH A ADDITIONAL TOTAL OF ALMOST $1,275..

YESTERDAY I WAS DRIVING THE VIPER AND THE GAUGE WAS PAST THE 3/4 BAR... I WAS AROUND THE CORNER FROM A DODGE DEALER..

I ASKED FOR THE VIPER TECH TO TAKE A LOOK AND HIS ADVICE..

HE COMMENTED THAT THE CAR WAS RUNNING VERY HOT AND PLUGGED IN A DRB..THE DRB READ 241.8 DEGREES!!!

SO YOU DONT THINK 242 DEGREES IS A PROBLEM??

IF YOU DOUBT THAT THE CAR IS CONSTANTLY IN THE SHOP FOR RUNNING TO HOT I WILL BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO FORWARD PICTURES AND ALL OF THE REPAIR INVOICES FROM THE 18 MONTHS!

No offense (well maybe a little) but what's the issue with the caps lock? People here have repeatedly asked you to get you elbow off of it. Maybe it seems like a small thing, but if you can't hear that message at all from the above posts, how do we know you've listened to anything of relevance from the multitude of technicians that have looked at your car?

Does the car push any coolant? Overflows? White smoke out of the exhaust? Pressurize the radiator hoses?

Do you hear the fan kick in?

Does it hold that temp or does it dip back down and bounce back up?

I HAVE BEEN ADVISED BY A RELIABLE SOURCE THAT THERE ARE SOME DEFECTIVE THERMOSTAT HOUSINGS.( MACHINED OFF CENTER)CAUSING THE THEROSTAT NOT TO SEAT... HAS ANYONE SEEN THIS?

If it weren't for the fact that you said it ran fine for a while after the rebuild, but then went back to running hot, I would guess that you have a restricted passage(s) in the block. Maybe there's some way a tech. can check for flow resistance, similar to flow benching heads?
