The center speaker is shot; seems like they eventually dry up and blow according to other owners. What tools do you use to remove the cover and does it simply pop off or do you need to screw it?

Jeez, this sounds like I'm posting on an '***' forum.

Thanks for the help!

If it is a Rt then its the subwoofer. It does dry out and then pop. Pop off the cover using a flat head screwdriver or plastic flat. Then unscrew the 3-4 screws holding the sub in place, and replace with new sub. Either oem or a JL, but if you don't want to drill in new holes to mount the JL sub then the JL logo will be off centered as the mounting holes don't line up. I recommend that you just blackout the white logo with a black marker like i did in order to avoid drilling a new hole

I have a brand new (never been opened) JL sub, identical to the one I recently installed in my '98 RT/10. I just re-drilled the holes to center the sub, and I removed one of the rubber isolators to allow it to fit flush. If interested in it, PM me.

I didn't like the look when the speaker is sort of sitting on top of the waterfall, and wanted it to look stock, but without cutting up anything. Removing the lower rubber ring (the one surrounding the magnet) probably doesn't help the quality of sound, but in my RT/10, I only ride around without the roof, so I can barely hear the stereo anyway. In the pic below, you can see the rubber band - I just removed (it will pop off).
