Hi, so I've been lurking on the forums for a few years now just reading various posts learning as much as I can about vipers before I purchase one and finally bought one roughly 3 weeks ago. It's a yellow 2001 gts and I'm loving the car and learning more and more aswell.

Its turning out that alot has been done to this viper not by the previous owner but the one before that. I'm finding more and more mods done and think a few things may not have been taken care of or dealt with in a proper manner by the previous owner and working or rectifying all it.
I'm hoping I can get a few mysteries solved here.

I do know the car was owned by a member here at some point named hssssss and have read all his posts regarding the car and believe he has done fairly extensive work to the car. Instead of ranting on I'll just go over a few things I'm curious about.

It looks like I have a fan mod but some of the wiring has me confused and it keeps blowing the fuse. I dont even know if it still has the switch or if it's supposed to have one. I attached a pic of the wiring.

I also have a few other things on the car that I'm not sure what they are for such as a fitting on the engine that you can see on the passenger side of the engine.

Any help would go a long way.

Thanks

The wire you're holding in your hand below the battery is a quick disconnect for a Battery Tender system. I have them on all my cars including my 2000 ACR and it's literally in the same place yours is so I don't even have to open the hood to get to it when I'm done driving. I just reach up in the fender flare in front of the driver side and connect my tender there using the quick connect you have. Here is a link to the systems I have on all my cars and they are wonderful and use the connector yours has already.

Unless you took it off for illustration, the cover for the wiring where the tender line comes out is missing. It's basically a rectangular metal cover that fits over that exposed area with the large loom cable and the plug-ins below it and uses the 2 holes you see exposed. Hope you get it all sorted out.

Thanks why you try and steel snake.
That solves one mystery with the battery tender and I can take that off my checklist. Now to figure out the wiring mess for the fan mod I believe and why some of the aftermarket gauges arent working.

Also that cover is something I didnt even know I had missing so I'll add that to my list if I can find one.

Thanks again, it all helps. Theres always advantages and disadvantages to buying a modded car.

Here's a pic of that missing cover. 4 screws on top, one around the corner by the washer tank and 2 phillys on the bottom. You can see my battery tender coming out the back.

Ok, makes sense that I'm missing the cover as if I try and pop the hood from the passenger side it gets caught where the cover is missing so I always need to lift from the driver's side.

I'm slowly figuring out bits and pieces on the car. I've determined my mechanical temp gauge doesnt work since it's not connected or wired to anything.

Determined my shift light is connected directly to the tachometer but read that it works to install it that way. My shift light only has 4 cyl, 6 cyl and 8 cyl modes so that might be why it doesnt seem to work?

Figured out my random switch under the dash is a fan switch which clearly isnt wired correctly so I'll need to find instructions on installing a fan mod to the car and do it correctly.

The list goes on but slowly working my way through it all as I want it ready for spring next year.

On the bright side I fixed my ebrake handle and dash lights.
Need to pull the rad now to fix a leak.
The battle continues.
Thanks for the help guys
