2002 center console removal

Hard to believe nobody's posted any console removal threads. Search didn't find any. I tried to remove mine today in my 2002 RT10 and got as far as the actual removal. Did all the screw, the bezel, the knee panels, but the brake handle brought everything to a halt. Ya can't get the console over that thing without wrecking something. It's the angle that kills you. If it was str8 up, no problem. Removing the handle? Jeez, I hope not. I'll live with the dent (in the console top) if it gets that big. Any thots?

Looked at my pictures from couple of months ago and hand brake handle stays in place. Boot came off with the center cover. Bezel came off first, then I think it just lifted off on mine.

Hi, It's hard to tell, but it looks like your handle's almost str8 up. Mine won't go past 45 degrees. It's that difference in angle that kills me. No matter what I did I couldn't get the console to clear. Funny mine's cognac too.

What about loosening the hand brake mechanism at the calipers?

Possible I suppose. I'll have to check the shop manual.

The cables can be disconnected at the calipers relatively easy. Spring pressure keeps them from coming disconnected.

OK guys, I got the skinny on this one.It is an actual crack in the glass. This is a common problem with those early years. I did take mine off and put a fiberglass resin patch on the backside of the consul. This worked out extremely well. Now for the good part. I had the same problem with a brake handle so I called our good friend Chuck Tator at Tators Garage. He said very simply and casually pull the handle up as if you were trying to break it. I actually felt that something was going to break but it did the trick. Let me know how you make out.

Hmm, hate breaking stuff. Sounds plausible tho. Moot point now, console got away from me, so unless I find another cognac NOS console I'll stick with what I have which really ain't that bad. Just chasing perfection. Happy traiils y'all.
