Hey everyone, I'm just curious if anyone wants to throw a guess what a 2002 GTS ACR with 8,000 miles and a already fixed & inspected salvage title would go for the guy is in my state and hes asking $44,500.

I'm not actually going to consider buying it but I just wanted to have some input on a price just for ****s & giggles:)

Im going to buy a viper sometime and I want to drive one. I cant find someone close to me with one that I can talk to and drive, just to see what there like. So I wanted to ask this guy if he would consider letting me see it and drive it just for fun...

Anyway throw in your imput on price if you would...thanks! :2tu:

depends on why it was salvaged, what condition (quality of the rebuild) it is in now

most likely a stranger will not let you drive their viper

good luck on your search

He says no frame damage...

The hood was replaced, the fender replaced, the rocker pannel was replaced. He also says 400+ hours of work.

He says he's willing to give test drives if interested...

Thats a lot of scratch for a salvaged title. I personally feel he's not even in the ballpark. Not salvaged maybe :)

blind monkey did the work?????? those are all bolt on repairs + paint ---> 400+ hours of work :eater:

(ok rear fender maybe a bit more)

with that description, agree with wikkid

So so far I'm hearing he's way to high on the price...hum I guess I just figured being an ACR it would hold it's value better even with the salvage. If anyone has the time...ya know if your just killing time or something, it's posted on vipertrader.com under ACR it's the steel grey one.

The thought keeps crossing my mind about getting a good deal on an ACR but then I remember I want a nice car that holds it's value after I buy it. :)

That's a reasonable price for a non-salvage car - but I wouldn't pay that for something that's got a tarnished title. Maybe $10k less if the work was done well - and even then, only buy it if it's something you don't plan on sellng anytime soon. Selling a salvage titled car is a pain - 99% of the people interested are interested in getting it for nothing. It's kind of a shame because even 'little' accidents in a Viper can lead to the insurance company totalling it out. But, it doesn't matter whether it's been hit by a train and rebuilt, or just needed to have some cosmetic work done - a salvage title is still a salvage title.

Just another question for all those in the viper know...when is the viper/SRT-10 to be discontinued? Will the final 50 be sold this coming spring 2011?

Also how soon do all of you think the prices of vipers will go up after the discontiuation of the model? I plan on purchasing a viper the spring of 2011, just wondering if I can expect the prices of a 2000 or 2002 GTS to be about what they are now or will they go up by then?

There is a real nice 2000 GTS with 34,000 miles he's asking $31,500.
Is this a fair price?

Thanks for all the help from all of you!

WAY to high on the price.

Agree with Plum. Bought a cherry 01 ACR four months ago for $39.5K with lots of extras. I feel for an honest owner who has an accident with a high end car, but the "salvage" title will always hurt the value to some degree, depending on what the damage was, and who is looking to buy it. A knowledgeable Viper guy might be willing to pay a bit more if he/she knows the cars history, extent of damage.

I like the GTS, 2000 model nice. Sounds good, no ABS in 2000. I think ABS started in 01, i could be wrong.Other then that sounds good:)

If your looking for a car that holds its value, don't even bother looking at a car with a salvage title :omg:

As others have said, that price is way too high. I would estimate at a minimum 10k less ;)

As for the 2000 car, that's a good price at the moment, but make sure you do all the relevant checks, Carfax etc.

Come on man...I got more than that for trade-in on my 2001 ACR. That may be what YOU would pay, but the cars are worth more than that.

You guys that think these cars should priced like Geo Metros are the Viper Nation's worst enemy. Keep saying that pristine, last model-year cars should be worth rock bottom prices and eventually, your car will be worth rock bottom prices.

You need to be talking the prices UP, not DOWN. Believe it or not, the discussions on this forum DO influence the price of these cars.

Vipers, for whatever reason seem to assigned salvaged titles very easily after sometimes minor accidents. I purchased my viper with a salvage title. Not sure if I paid $10,000 less because of it, but the repairs that were made were top notch, and unless I tell someone, the only ones who will know are me and the next owner when he registers it.
I did not buy it as an investment, the return on investment is the enjoyment I get everytime I start it up and pull out of the garage.....

When the replacement cost of the hood approaches half the value of the car (I think it's near $20K for a late model Gen-2 hood, painted and installed), it's easy to hit the percentage necessary to call it a total.

I agree with you though...these sure are fun cars to own, no matter what their title status!

I'm doing some things at the moment so I don't have too much time to go look this ad up while I'm at work, but out of curiosity......where is the car located?

Did you let the guy know that you are not going to buy the car but just want to drive it for fun? If not then you should not be calling him and wasting his time. That is the reason I will not let most people drive one of my Vipers for sale.

That is to much money for a salvage car even with everything done right.

The Car is located about two hours north of me in Browerville, Minnesota. I would consider it for the right price (no higher than 35K.)

I don't like the salvage title, but I don't make a six figure salary either. I can't run out and buy the nicest GTS out there at the drop of a hat! I know I have seen some posts on other threads that some people think Vipers (and other expensive cars) should be exclusively for wealthy people, but I kind of don't agree with that...

I love vipers :2tu: and would care for it just as well as anybody else, but I'm willing to get one with higher millage, multiple owners Ect. so I can afford it!

If you are willing to buy it for $35,000 then buy a "NON Salvaged" titled Viper. You can find some good deals on a GTS in the 35-40k range. I could never buy a car with a salvage title, it would bug me and haunt me all the time. Even if there doesn't seem to be that much wrong with the car now, you are getting yourself into a situation you really don't want to be in. If you just wait and find the right car with a clean title and in good condition, I'm sure you would feel much better. Have you looked in the classifieds here on the VCA?

Don't get a salvage title car. I bought my 2000 GTS ACR just before the "rock bottom prices" and paid 37k for a damn near mint one. I am not a rich guy either and here is some stuff I have learned on this forum and about this car...
1. Tires are expensive
2. If something happens to this car (hood damage etc) expect to lose a lot of value on the car
3. Viper tax
4. Tires are expensive;)

Basically; don't buy this for an investment or to get ROI other than "smiles from ear to ear." I have finally conceded to that and really enjoy driving this car. It is an expensive car to maintain.

I agree COMPLETELY with the above poster on the value of these cars. Not ONE person I talk to on the street thinks this car could be had for under 50k. To most people, this is one of the most beautiful cars in the world. While I understand most buyers through the internet are very savvy and can find a deal; not all buyers are like that. Private sales occur all the time and trade-in's for clean cars can be had for more than what private sales are going for. Not everyone trusts and goes to Ebay and AT. So when prices are high on Hemming's and LOW on Viperclub.org...it DOES negatievly impact perception and value to some degree. I think a lot of people buy these cars that are out of their league, drive the crap out of them for a year and then sell a year later because they cant afford new tires....

I can't remember which price of these two is the correct one, but I do know for a fact when I was at his shop, Chuck Tator told me the hood was either $23,000 or $28,000 according to one he had to purchase for someone. It's insane.... :crazy2:

Listen to this man, there is much truth in his post. You may get into a Viper buying a salvage, but it will eat away at you knowing that it's not a clean title. It is absolutely, 100% worth the wait to seek out and find a clean car in your price range, and based on your price range, you won't be waiting long.

:crazy2::crazy2::crazy2: Prices have gone up then!

I heard somewhere that in the manufacturing process, roughly 50% of the hoods made failed QC checks and had to be discarded. The Gen2 hood is truly a thing of beauty, but my gawd is it a poor design from an engineering standpoint.

Yes, I agree. Although the hood on the GTS is quite beautiful I also feel it was designed poorly mainly in the sense of how much it cost to replace. If the hood and fender area weren't all one piece it would be a lot cheaper. I'm sure the SRT hoods are a lot cheaper since it's not all one piece. Actually how much are the hoods for an SRT going for?

Respectfully, I don't appreciate your post. I had someone look for a value for my car about a year and a half ago and then used lowball numbers quoted on here by supposed experts to attempt to screw me out of value on my car. You may ask how that can be accomplished but believe me, it is real.

If you are not interested in buying the car, then I would suggest others on this board to not post values that may hurt another member of the board, especially if there is no buying potential on the part of the poster. I am not saying that you are a bad person, but all this can do is hurt another member or seller.

If I posted lowball numbers on your house and everyone joined in on the site and did the same, it will cost the you market traffic and a potential sale. That is not fair to the owner.

No idea what they run through a dealer, but if I had to guess, I'd say less than $2k.
