Im thinking about getting upgraded pushrods. But I swear I read ther 2003's are forged from the factory and that in 2004 they went to weaker pushrods?????I have a 2003 so if they are forged no reason to change them..Anyone can verify.

So did you get your car fixed?

BTW I don't think pushrods are your problem.

twister, so apparently you broke at least one rod ?

depending on your damage, you might just want to replace the 1 or 2 you broke with take offs from another 2003 car. if you did more damage, **** it up and build it right. hope it was not that though...

Pushrods or connecting rods (Piston)????

2003 are said to have forged connecting rods not forged pushrods. :2tu:

Roe Racing sells upgraded pushrods if that's what you are looking for.

A stiffer pushrod is always better. The stock pushrods on a Viper flex quite a bit, causing camshaft failure.

Here is how it happens; During peak tappet acceleration on the camshaft lobe, the pushrod sees its peak load. That is where the pushrod will bend, if it is going to. After the acceleration rate drops the pushrod will straighten out, adding energy to the rocker and valve, causing it to *loft*, or have more lift than it is designed to. When the valve spring is able to get everything back in contact, the lifter will impact the lobe, causing damage.

The Spintron trace in the second pic displays the effect of a too-weak pushrod. The red line, which shows actual valve motion, lags behind the blue line, which shows theoretical valve motion. You can see where the actual lift lags behind design lift at the beginning of the lift curve, and as the pushrod straightens out the valve lift exceeds the design lift. We call that *lofting*. The problem in this case is that the spring package doesn't let the valve loft completely over the nose of the cam, and slams the lifter down onto the top of the lobe, causing damage.

The pic on the left shows two cams. The one on the left side is a 708 cam from a stock Viper. On the top of one of the lobes you can clearly see where the lifter had been impacting the camshaft lobe. The cam had to be replaced. The Spintron (which is of a different engine) trace shows how it happened.

Greg, such a nice guy to step in and help Tweester. Hang in there as his thinker runs a cam with far too much lobe separation and little to no spark.:2tu:

Here are two more Spintron screenshots courtesy of 3V Performance.

The first one is of another bad setup, with the lifter crashing onto the top of the lobe. The second one is a well thought out and tested valvetrain that *should* last a long time.

I don't have any deer in my front yard, but I have about 50 doves that eat like little piggies. :rolaugh: Speaking of which, I need to stop at the store and pick up another 50 pound sack of food for them.

Sorry for the thread hijack Twister.
