2005 Key Fob Issues

Hello everyone. I searched for information on the issue I am having and couldn’t find anything. I recently bought a 2005 Copperhead Edition and it came with one working fob. I ordered two more fobs. I followed the instructions in the owners manual and was able to program one of the new fobs. Problem is, now the original fob won’t work and I can’t get back into programming mode with the fob I just programmed. So I’m back to the original problem of only having one working fob. Anyone out there have any suggestions? I appreciate your help, thanks!

New fob programming is not owner's manual. Sync is but programming a new shouldn't been. It requires a scan tool or some cars some crazy sequence of push this, push that, open this, wait, then turn that then this.

Yes and no...the Gen III Vipers do have that procedure spelled out in the owners manual. Sometimes it works, and sometimes you end up as you did. While the Viper was in program mode, did you quickly reprogram original fob after programming spare?

A friend had this happen to his 2004.

Ultimately, I took my DRB III to our next club meeting, and programmed 2 fobs for him.

While I have not used an automotive locksmith, many have posted success by using their programmer.

The Gen V with its chipped key is a different beast.

You could always try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. Just make sure you have a window down or door open while you do it. Also, after you cycle power, turn the key to run, then off to reinitialize.

Like the first post said, you will need a scanner to program, Look for a mobile key company or a high end repair shop and ask them if they can reprogram. If not you will be at the dealers mercy. It is not had we do them all the time.

I had the exact same thing happen to me on my 2003. I have yet to get any other remote to program. One of these days I will try a locksmith or see if I can find somewhere with the DRB III.

Thanks for all the responses. The manual does spell out the process, but I did not think you would have to reprogram an already programmed fob after programming a new one. In any case, sounds like I need a scan tool if I want two working fobs. I did try disconnecting the battery as well with no luck. Thanks again for your help!

I did this on my 2004 following the manual procedure (I also believe I was able to use my Autel scanner). I programmed three key fobs including the original again. I think you just need to repeat the process for each fob before completing the process. I would try again
