Does anybody recognize a black on black no stripe viper that has been registered in Vernal, UT? I was seriously considering buying this 2006 coupe but was turned off by the carfax that showed it having 67,258 miles then back down to 2,009 miles. It could just be a clerical typo but I'm not sure. The seats look a tad worn for a 2k mile car. Are there any other tricks to figuring this out? I normally would move on but there aren't exactly a plethora of black/black vipers for sale. Thanks.

VIN = 1B3JZ69Z16V101253

The problem now is that even if there is no issue with the car, if Carfax shows a discrepancy, some future buyers (like yourself) will be turned off when the new owner goes to sell.. You have to consider that even if you become satisfied that the odometer is correct.

I see from google a listing at a Dodge dealership, and also an independent used car dealer. I imagine it was taken in as a trade and then moved off the lot to an independent when it didn't sell quickly.

Can't the dealer check the cars computer for mileage and provide written verification? This should also be shared with carfax to update their records (true or false)

I'm betting that you should be able to easily determine whether it has 3k or 67k miles by giving it a close inspection.

Just look at all of the other date/miles info. Does it consistently rise in mileage and then over time and then drop, or is it always a low mile car, then a super high number, then back down to fall in line with the low miles again? Either way, as AZTVR stated, if you buy it, you better big discount because of the Carfax entry, even if it's an error. You're going to have to have to end up giving one and go through a lot of explanations if you ever try to sell it. I had it happen to me on one my previous cars. The TN DMV bozo's entered the miles incorrectly once and I had no idea. When I got rid of the car, I got screwed for it. I think there are ways to get it corrected, but it's a complete PITA to try to truly get it corrected.

the interior looks clean. its most likely a typo, and the actual miles is 2,000.... However, as AZ stated. The value is affected, due to this.

I was doing a search for something else and found this post. This car is still on autotrader for sale (I checked the vin). I wonder what the deal is. Has anyone ever gone to check it out?

Agree with this. Shouldn't be hard to tell the difference.
I feel the same way. It looks good in the pics but for me it's most of the way across the country. If it was at Tomball, Woodhouse, Roanoke I'd trust it. But it's at some car halfway house. I'd have to see it in person and have it checked by a viper tech. It seems to be a good deal, which begs the question, why has it been there so long if it's a solid ride.

black and 67k or 3k cmon really?? The paint will clearly tell the tale of which. My 5k mile viper has a few chips near the rockers Im sure at 67k they are blasted.

Between the rockers, and the interior, it's a pretty easy one to figure out. Door levers on the outside of the car can also be a give away. If it was a issue that someone replaced all the wearable parts on the car... damn, it's got a lot of cash into it!

Well shouldn't the registration history /inspection history show the mileage history of this vehicle? Shoot, any service records would do the same thing.

I have had nightmares with Carfax. A few years back we made a mistake entering a customer's mileage on a repair order, 24,000 miles when actual was 2400 miles. Little did we know our contracted invoice software company shared our information with Carfax, it took over a year to correct, our customer could not sell his car and we were to blame!

So, it looks like the incorrect information was corrected

Yes it was. I was looking at this car a few months back when I was Viper hunting. I called the dealer and they said it was a typo and had it fixed 2 days later on the carfax report. I didn't get a chance to see the car in person and ended up getting a good deal closer to home.
