Have you tried Googling your VIN? You might get lucky and find an old ad with pictures of the number plaque.

I originally owned #37 in Frisco, TX (2006 - 2011) sold once I moved to San Diego as the roads are horrible and traffic is a nightmare. Loved her every minute in Texas.

I was keeping a spreadsheet of the 'First edition' cars, and first noticed your car for sale (Illinois) in Nov 2014, I recorded the VIN but noted that the plaque was missing.

Then again in March 2015. It was being sold by ebay seller 'moparnocar24' in Virginia

Do you know the history of the car, or have a carfax report? I found a website with a few photos of the car possibly in Alabama (still nothing to indicate the serial number though) it was showing 13050 miles

It's an internal number I assign Vipers when I think I know enough or somebody adds it to the registry. VR = Viper Registry 01284 = the 1284th one verified. I have over 30k VIN's and build sheets, getting a picture of the Viper associated with that data... Priceless

I'm glad it was only minor damage, and the seller disclosed the fact. I just wish I could help you find the serial number. Don't Chrysler keep any records to match the vin to the serial number? If you have a carfax at least you should know the dealer when the car was new. In the UK, the current owner can apply for previous owners addresses, is this not possible in the USA?

I'm going off topic somewhat, but I did this search with my old 1972 mustang (I was the 13th owner by 1989!) and managed to get in contact with the original female owner who had been bought the car as a present from her husband who was a US airline pilot. She sold the car in 1977 after it had been broken into and stolen. This explained the broken glass I found inside the doors when I rebuilt the car in the early 90's! I also found the 2nd owner, and visited his home 40 miles from me, where he gave me photo's of the car in 1977/78. These were the only two I managed to contact at the time, but a few years later after I sold the car, another ex-owner got in touch on the UK Mustang forum and sent me more photo's from the mid 80's.
