Most Gen 3's and their drivers are usually in the low 12 range.

low 11's for an 08 is just about right.

Exhaust and tires will get you into the high 10's

Tracks, conditions such as weather, temps, altitude all play a big factor. Remember there are guys running Z06's stock in the 10's and guys running them stock in the high 11's , even some 12 second 1/4 miles. Not many Viper guys get out and drag there car. Yet the Vette guys seem to live at the tracks. Maybe your at a good track, a 11.49 pass on a 100% Stock Gen 3 is a great time. I dont think Ive seen one quicker posted.

he said stock "motor", doesn't necessarily mean totally stock..... need some clarification on that..... he could have exhaust and headers..... I haven't seen a bone stock Gen III run that quick either....

We werent talking about the 08' , was talking about the Gen 3 that claims to run 11.4's stock on runflats.

I have a C6 Z06 and 97 Viper GTS.In driving both, the Viper is fast, however the C6 Z06 is much faster.I was hoping the 2008 Vipers were going to be faster or as fast as the Z06,but that does not seen to be the case with factory tires.I am buying a 2008 Black Viper Coupe,I still 2008 like the car alot.

Well that must be a world record! I have raced many viper events from Englishtown to Maryland International Raceway and track rentals and I have never seen a SRT run but about 2 or 3 passes even in the 11's much less 11.49. Most of the best runs they make are 12.0's although I have heard of a few guys that claim high 11's just haven't seen them.

What are you shifting at ?
Are you granny shifting ?
What gear are you in at the traps ?
Did you heat the tires each run ?
Did you let the the motor cool between runs ?
Did you try different rpm's at launch and what were they ?

After getting answers from above I think I can help you to lower your times.

11.49 and you are getting beat by Z06's? That is surprising. If you were running low 12's i could understand it but an 11:49...

The new 08 will hit high 10's. They make close to 550rwhp. With a trap of 125-127, you should hit 10.90's

The fact is, most people do not get enough time behind the wheel to make the great times. I have about 50 passes in this car and I feel I'm far from being able to push the best number out of it. The car should have some 10.70's-10.80's in it. What's my best so far 11.1 I'm disappointed in myself.

Hey Guys,
We had a very fun day but disappointing. :( This is the cars first time out and is totally stock except for the tires including stock filters and exhaust. I did not want to waste the stock PS2's when the Hoosiers are available.

I have had a 1996 GTS and 2000 GTS which both ran 11.7's all day with minor mods and sticky tires. This new 2008 dyno'd at 543rwhp and 509rwtq and I can't get a better time yet. I was only able to make four passes and they all get better. Started with an 11.8, 11.7, 11.5 and then 11.4. The stock 3.07 gears make a launch very difficult. My other Vipers had 3.73 gears and launched much better and obvisouly made a big difference in the 1/4 mile times. I am not a rocket scientist but I've been drag racing for years and I think the reason high power Vipers are breaking rear ends and half shafts is because they are trying to leave so ******* such a tall gear. The Z06's all come stock with 3.42 gears. I was able to launch at 4,000rpms and she hooked, bogged, and then took off the last pass. I am sure with more practice this car will run very low 11's "bone" stock but when you are having to launch that hard something is going to break. I have 3.45 gears on order and I believe that with the new gears and Hoosiers it will run high 10's in good weather and on a good track. I know with the 3.45 gears and Hoosiers you guys won't consider the car stock anymore but thats fine. Its not worth breaking rear ends or half shafts or wearing out a new clutch to maybe break into the 10's "BONE" stock. I want to run 10's all day and give the Z06's a run for their money on the street and I think the gearing will accomplish that. If not, there's always headers and exhaust and then we all know she will run 10's. Lets get there with just the gears which Dodge should have put in them to start with and then go hunting. ;)
We will be at OSW on the 24th with the new gears if anyone wants to come watch.

So were the z06's all running below 11.4? And were the Z's stock as best u could tell? I cannot imagine Z's running below 11.4 consistently.
