This quote was taken from a guy I know on the Cuda / Challenger board. He's been around a few years and has always been a striaght shooter. Just thought you guys might want to hear what is being said....

"I had a conversation with a Diamler-Chrysler engineer yesterday, talked about the new Challenger.

From what he's heard, here's whats going on.

Cars should start rolling off the line in January-Feburary of 2008, with them hitting the dealers by March. There will be a SXT model with either a V-6 or a 4.8 V-8. The first hemi R/T's will be all autosticks. The SRT-8's will be the 6.4 Hemi's putting out 500-505 HP. The story right now is the manual trans is still up in the air, he said there is a faction that wants only autosticks, and another wants the 6 speeds. He's backing the 6 speed availability.

The viper owners wont be happy about a V-8 putting out as much HP as their V-10's, so the new V-10's will get 650 HP, with a possible forced induction option adding another 100-150HP!

This car is a definate GO, and it will be as close to the show car as they can legally make it."

Questions:

1. The current top hemi is rated at 425HP. How is the bump up in HP being accomplished?

2. By the "new V-10's" comment, was he referring to the 2008 freshened Viper allegedly to be in show rooms by March, 2007 or the new Viper coming in as a 2009 or 2010 model?

3. Was the type of forced induction mentioned - centrifugal or roots?

4. Where would the six speed transmission come from for the hemi engine?

I know that you probably cannot get the answers to the above questions since you are reporting what amounts to hearsay on hearsay evidence ( he said that he said that....) but no harm in asking. Also, I doubt that DC will offer a 650HP vehicle that can be upgraded to 750 or 800HP through boost. I can see a 550HP standard vehicle with a 100HP boost option getting through all the corporate layers but I do not see any more than that happening. Just my opinion. Not based on anything I have heard or read.

The '08 is already done...so this info if true would be for the '09...or 10 model. The timing makes sense.

Question:

I hope so, however they might consider trying to keep it under their hat a little longer until they can off load more of the lower HP cars.

I think VOI will make it official.

So does that mean the CC will get 650hp?
