Hey guys got a problem with small amount of oil seeping out of the oil filter on my new ACR. The oil filter is on tight. I hand tighten it,and also did a full turn with a wrench. I even changed the oil filter to a new one. Oil filter is Mopar 1-05038041AA . Here's a pic, thanks..

Spin the filter off & check to make sure you don't have 2 gaskets...sometimes the old gasket will stick to the filter housing & cause this problem

Yep, oil cooler line. The 8.3 is notorious for this (had mine done last year, and I may need it again). Not sure if the 8.4 is the same, but check it. Your car should be under warranty, correct?

Did you install the filter? Is oil running down the side of filter?
That small amount look normal to me.

No oil running down the side of the filter. yes I do the oil changes on my cars.

I never see this on my GTS. Thank you..

From an old thread that I started:

http://forums.viperclub.org/threads/625407-2008-oil-change...FYI...?highlight=oil+filter

"2008 oil change...FYI...

For those who have not yet done an
oil change on their 2008 (probably 2009), the drain
plug requires a 13 mm wrench.

Interestingly, the NEW 08-09 Viper specific
MOPAR oil filter (05038041AA) was a slight disappointment in that the rubber gasket was loose
when taken from the box/plastic sack/plastic cover cap.
While I have been using the ''other'' Viper specific MOPAR filter
(05037836AA) for a couple of years on all of our other Vipers, I have not seen
this type of problem before. (SEE UPDATE BELOW)

Anyone else seen this on the 08-09 filter...or am I the only one??" (later, we found the answer was YES...including a late blowout of the gasket on a friend's 2008 Viper which netted a street full of oil and a ride on the "hook"...which was actually a flatbed!!!)
.........................................................................................................................

UPDATE: there have been several confirmed issues with this loose gasket on some batches of the Gen IV oil filter (05038041AA)...so GREAT CARE must be taken to be sure that it stays properly centered in place as one EASES the filter into place (NO SPINNING !!!).

After my post above, I began to see the same loose gaskets on a bunch of the Viper specific GenI-III filters (05037836AA)...noting that the Gen I-III filter has undergone an update (different reason than the gasket issue) and is now called 05037836AB.

Since experienced Viper techs have reported similar issues, my advice and my own procedure for our Vipers has been to inspect the filter with a mechanic's mirror from all angles during installation to check for asymmetry of the gasket (buldge)....and if it looks good, fill car with oil, run car on lift to check for leaks, followed by test drive, then recheck on lift, then watch for drips long term.

Looking forward to my Spring oil changes so that I can try newer batch of BOTH of these filters.

If it is the oil cooler lines rebuild them and replace with AN fittings. Just redid mine and glad I don't have to mess with the crappy stockers anymore.

when i changed the filter it was a real PITA to make sure the gasket stays in the right place, i could easily see how it could get shifted at the last moment and not seal correctly.

...and, as an oil filter expert has reminded me: "Hi Steve, another explanation for new
oil in this
"seamer chuck groove" on the oil filter is from over oiling the
gasket
(technique), or filling the filter and the oil ends up there from tilting
a
pre-filled filter, or spinning a pre-filled filter up the stud to
fast."

THANKS, Man !!

you may also be wrenching the filter to tight-distorting the gasket, hand as tight as possible, then may be turn with wrench a inch

Yes it was the oil filter. I got some new Mopar filters, and the gaskets do seem more tight..

Swapped the filter out,and went out for a drive came back and no oil on the filter rim. So it's all good now Thank you..
