Cobbled mess? I beg to differ. The Stingray theme is very evident and nicely implemented. Only thing I don't like is the Stingray emblem on the fender; looks like a ***** wiggling it's way into a huge ladypart. Nothing some fishing line and a hair dryer can't fix. Seems not matter what GM does people want to bash the interior.

Looks like a modernized C4 interior. Much more driver-focused than the C5/C6. More of a cockpit feel.

This Gran Turismo reveal is pretty neat too... plays homage to the previous 6 generations...

Informative interview with the engineers showcasing all the design changes that went into the car...

My main gripes:

1. The gearing on the 7 speed. It's the same as the C6 gearing with a new, even higher, 7th gear overdrive. I was hoping for gears 1-5 to be close ratio, then 6th and 7th for economy.

2. What happened to the pending 8 speed auto? Guess they're going to pull a "C6" where the A4 was used in the first production model.

Ummm, at half the price of a base viper, a few hundred lbs less, 7 speed transmission, and a bunch of other features, that is a smoking deal. Wait until the Zo6 and the ZR1 come out before you start laughing. Remember, the old ZR1 still whips the new viper around a track.

Ummm get your facts straight, the new Vette has an estimated curb weight of 3350 the Viper is 3354. Don't believe me, goto 1:13 of this video and see it yourself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUrtMZ20rFk&feature=youtu.be

I agree, I do like the driver centered cockpit. But, just too much cheap plastic from pics I've seen.
Where do you see cheap plastics? The IP surround is raw carbon fiber, anything metallic is real brushed aluminum. I'm really not sure what else they can do while keeping it a reasonably affordable? The car is supposed to be attainable for the "average" guy and it's beginning to get out of reach for many. That said, it's far cheaper than any of the competition.

I'm very curious to see the real curb weight. Prior to reveal all signs pointed to a lighter car, but now the grumblings are that it'll be 100 pounds heavier than a base C6. They took 99 pounds out of the frame (vs. the previous steel frame. The ZR1/Z06 frame was 137 lbs lighter, but you couldn't take the top out or have a vert), they say they took 37 pounds out of the body, but then the LT1 is like 15 pounds heavier due to the need for a more robust fuel system to handle the pressures of direct injection.

I was hoping to see a sub 3100lb 470 crank HP C7 with road race close ratio gearing.

The CF inserts are not going to be in the base trim, lets be honest.

Pictures here, beyond the CF trim, the plastic molding just is bleh.

Yes but only nerds drive corvettes on the street. I could care less about the track. Ok, just kidding........

My initial reaction to the rear was horror. But then I realized it is because I am stuck in the past with Corvettes. Where is the round tail lights? Then I thought, GM is going after a younger crowd, and the younger crowd probably doesn't have the pre-conceived ideas that some of us do, like me. Another Corvette that looks like the C4/C5/C6 wasn't gonna work, as sales have shown. The time is now to change.

I have to see the car in person, but I think it could be striking. It is more technological looking, more futuristic looking, and fresh. To say the front looks like a Viper... well the Viper front looks like a Ferrari (all in the family). In fact, all the fronts on all these sports cars look the same nowadays. I see no reason at all why Corvette would try to COPY a Viper. They have a crap load more heritage, design, and pride to rely on, rather than copying a Viper. I don't think GM is envious.

I think sales will increase on this Vette. If you look at a C6 now, all of a sudden it looks a thousand years old. And boring. The new car is much more dynamic (maybe TOO dynamic with all the vents, etc.) The technology you get for the money is amazing. Nothing can touch that value.

We have new Vettes and Vipers - Go America!

I really like the design. Maybe too many vents for the base model (i'm afraid to see how many more end up on the Z models), but overall it's awesome. If I can buy a new one for under $55,000 i'd have a hard time saying no. An american sports car, with 450hp to boot and some pretty exotic styling...what isn't to like about that?

To me, the back is one of the best design aspects of the new C7.

Well dang... car looks good with P40s. Too bad they dropped all the oranges. It looks like the C7 would have worn Atomic Orange quite well.

This car looks bad ass in red. The tail lights are growing on me. Interior doesn't look as good as the Viper but if they sell these for $53k? Pretty damn appealing!

Someone photoshop the rear side vents next to the rear lights in the same color as the body and you have a winner right there folks.

I really don't see that as the base trim interior, I'd expect that to be the premium option group interior.

The C7 looks great but at the end of the day if you want the ZR1 you'll probably have to wait for 2 years and it will be over $100k and then you will have a $100k+ car that looks like a million other cars on the road. Sound familiar ? At any rate SRT will probably have to be a little more willing to negotiate on the price of the GenV's.

It is confirmed to be 3350lbs. GM said it's 150 lbs heavier than the base because crash standards have changed in the 9 years that the C6 came out and the new standards require less structural deformation.

I really like the design. Maybe too many vents for the base model (i'm afraid to see how many more end up on the Z models)

I thought the same thing. I think the C7 already has more vents than a supercar. (1 hood, 2 sides, 2 quarter panels, 2 tail) The Z06 would have 9 vents.

I don't mind the number of vents, but they should have made them less tacky. They look like Pep Boys. Maybe body color, or just a mesh screen. All those louvers and what not...

I like it but those vents on the rear quarter panels look silly.
Is that to draw air in to cool the engine? Oh wait it's in the front...

They cool the transaxle and rear diff. GM said every vent has a function. I actually don't mind the look of those vents.

I've always had a soft spot for Vette's even though I'm a Viper guy at heart. Almost even bought an orange 2007 C6 with al the right toys in it a few years back, but got my last Audi TT instead because of the AWD as it was my daily driver at the time. Now having finally just bought my first Viper after wanting one for 20 years as I now also have a practical family SUV for my wife and 1 year old son, and loving every single part of owning the Viper so far, I have to say that I also am overall very impressed with the new C7. At first, the rear threw me off too, but it has since grown on me the more I see it. I have a feeling that much like the new Gen V Viper, it will look even better in person. When I saw the Gen V in magazines when it first was unveiled I liked it a lot, but when I saw it at the NY Auto Show last April I fell in love with it.

I don't see why so many people feel like they have to only love one car and hate the competition. They are all forms of functional art, and both Viper and the new C7 happen to be beautiful and fun in their own ways and would look really nice sitting next to each other in a garage. I can say confidently that I have no plans to ever sell my Gen IV Viper unless I were to be down to my last penny. On the other hand I also now plan to pick up a new C7 one day, but possibly will wait for the new Z06 to come out, and will also hopefully get a low miles used Gen V GTS in a few years as well. I dont care if they have some similar features inside or out as i feel they are both uniquely representative of the best GM and Chrysler have ever done to date. And I also wouldn't mind adding a Ford GT, a Lotus Exige for the track, and/or even a used low mileage Ferrari 430 or 458 in 5 or 10 years also, but for the meantime I'm damn proud of what the American automotive industry is creating to effectively compete with the best from overseas that costs many times more..... It also seems that I have my work cut out for me in the office to make all these things become realities in the next 5, 10, and 20 years...... Haha!

This. So many guys here (and on the vette boards) are so insecure that they have to make up reasons why one car is great and the other is horrible. Making fun of the vette because it has 450 hp? lol It is half the price of the base viper. Wait till the ZR1 comes out and see if you still make fun of it. The new vette looks pretty good and sounds like they have really upped their game with this generation. When the Zo6 and the ZR1 come out, I hope that the viper is able to up it's game a little and stand above the competition. We should be happy that there is another US auto manufacturer making a world ****** as well as some healthy competition for us viper owners.

This is the first Vette I would consider owning, primarily as a daily driver. I wouldn't consider a ZR1, although it is a fantastic car, since I rather have something less present on the streets- like a Viper. The issue with Vettes and 911s for me is they scale from base model to supercar performance, hence large production runs, so you see them everywhere (at least in California.) At $53K, the C7 Vette is a great daily driver, but I'll enjoy my Viper and Vanquish on the weekends, etc.

I saw the pictures and immediately thought they took styling cues from the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, the Nissan GT-R and borrowed select cues from the Gen 5 Viper. You can't fault Chevrolet, heck stealing styling has worked just fine for Kia!

Aaron
