Meh. The viper still looks better.
You bet the Viper looks better.
That Vette is a cobbled up mess.
All those sharp angles..... it looks like a child's Transformer toy.

Ummm, at half the price of a base viper, a few hundred lbs less, 7 speed transmission, and a bunch of other features, that is a smoking deal. Wait until the Zo6 and the ZR1 come out before you start laughing. Remember, the old ZR1 still whips the new viper around a track.
Where do you see cheap plastics? The IP surround is raw carbon fiber, anything metallic is real brushed aluminum. I'm really not sure what else they can do while keeping it a reasonably affordable? The car is supposed to be attainable for the "average" guy and it's beginning to get out of reach for many. That said, it's far cheaper than any of the competition.I agree, I do like the driver centered cockpit. But, just too much cheap plastic from pics I've seen.
I'm very curious to see the real curb weight. Prior to reveal all signs pointed to a lighter car, but now the grumblings are that it'll be 100 pounds heavier than a base C6. They took 99 pounds out of the frame (vs. the previous steel frame. The ZR1/Z06 frame was 137 lbs lighter, but you couldn't take the top out or have a vert), they say they took 37 pounds out of the body, but then the LT1 is like 15 pounds heavier due to the need for a more robust fuel system to handle the pressures of direct injection.Ummm get your facts straight, the new Vette has an estimated curb weight of 3350 the Viper is 3354. Don't believe me, goto 1:13 of this video and see it yourself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUrtMZ20rFk&feature=youtu.be
The CF inserts are not going to be in the base trim, lets be honest.Where do you see cheap plastics? The IP surround is raw carbon fiber, anything metallic is real brushed aluminum. I was hoping to see a sub 3100lb 470 crank HP C7 with road race close ratio gearing.
One Cool Option is the Lift off Roof ! The looks off a Hard Top and the Benifits of a Convertible ! Win, Win !

This photoshop changed my mind about the car:

Well dang... car looks good with P40s. Too bad they dropped all the oranges. It looks like the C7 would have worn Atomic Orange quite well. This photoshop changed my mind about the car:

I really don't see that as the base trim interior, I'd expect that to be the premium option group interior. This car looks bad ass in red. The tail lights are growing on me. Interior doesn't look as good as the Viper but if they sell these for $53k? Pretty damn appealing!

I really like the design. Maybe too many vents for the base model (i'm afraid to see how many more end up on the Z models)
I don't mind the number of vents, but they should have made them less tacky. They look like Pep Boys. Maybe body color, or just a mesh screen. All those louvers and what not...
I like it but those vents on the rear quarter panels look silly.
Is that to draw air in to cool the engine? Oh wait it's in the front...
I've always had a soft spot for Vette's even though I'm a Viper guy at heart. Almost even bought an orange 2007 C6 with al the right toys in it a few years back, but got my last Audi TT instead because of the AWD as it was my daily driver at the time. Now having finally just bought my first Viper after wanting one for 20 years as I now also have a practical family SUV for my wife and 1 year old son, and loving every single part of owning the Viper so far, I have to say that I also am overall very impressed with the new C7. At first, the rear threw me off too, but it has since grown on me the more I see it. I have a feeling that much like the new Gen V Viper, it will look even better in person. When I saw the Gen V in magazines when it first was unveiled I liked it a lot, but when I saw it at the NY Auto Show last April I fell in love with it.
I don't see why so many people feel like they have to only love one car and hate the competition. They are all forms of functional art, and both Viper and the new C7 happen to be beautiful and fun in their own ways and would look really nice sitting next to each other in a garage. I can say confidently that I have no plans to ever sell my Gen IV Viper unless I were to be down to my last penny. On the other hand I also now plan to pick up a new C7 one day, but possibly will wait for the new Z06 to come out, and will also hopefully get a low miles used Gen V GTS in a few years as well. I dont care if they have some similar features inside or out as i feel they are both uniquely representative of the best GM and Chrysler have ever done to date. And I also wouldn't mind adding a Ford GT, a Lotus Exige for the track, and/or even a used low mileage Ferrari 430 or 458 in 5 or 10 years also, but for the meantime I'm damn proud of what the American automotive industry is creating to effectively compete with the best from overseas that costs many times more..... It also seems that I have my work cut out for me in the office to make all these things become realities in the next 5, 10, and 20 years...... Haha!
Why is this tread under "general viper" discussions?
