A guy here at work is picking up his Comm. Edition (Non Z06) C5 at over 9k off of msrp. They are really trying to move them.

Our local corvette gooroo said that the next ZO 6 will be in the $70 thousand range,because is will be pushing close to 500 HP and some of the stuff that they have on there race car will be on it to improve handling and other mechical upgrade.70 thousand vet or 80 something viper. VIPERRRRRR

Yeah, and the Mustang Cobra comes close to the Z06 for less than half the price of a Viper - you can bang for a buck all the way down the line.

Interesting, I've heard the next Z06 (or performance Vette) will be priced similarly to the current Z06 (MSRP). I don't see a big market for a $70,000 Vette, but we'll see. MSRP on the current model is $53K. My guess is the new model will sticker at $58K - Just a guess....
I don't know how anyone can say the Ford GT is overhyped or overpriced.
Any car that a magazinecan get to trap at 128mph is not overhyped.
Or a car that clears 150mph in 16.9(!) seconds, and 170mph in 23.0(!!). To put this in perspective, the last test I saw of an SRT-10 doing a standing mile put it at 30.5 seconds to 167.6mph. A murcielago takes the same time but ends up at 169. Even if we guess the Viper was in the heat in the mountains, that gap is extremely significant. The car is supposed to be 550hp, but the it's been reportedly dynoed at 565...to the wheels.
And if you've seen the car in person, it may have a Ford badge, but it's not the same quality as a Taurus. The motor is an absolute work of art.
And as long as I lived in the UK, if theres one thing that I've learned, its that Jeremy Clarkson will do absolutely anything he can to bash American cars. And if the man says that the GT40 is better than any Ferrari, thats a very very high compliment.
I know I can't wait for the chance to drive one!

MotorTrend has the SRT-10 trapping at 123.6 and a preproduction GT at 124.3 (MT 6/2004 pg 177,178), not too much difference there. Granted, Ford has supposedly addressed this by raising the boost to pick-up an additional 50 ponies or so - but how will that effect overall engine reliability? Of course, only time will tell. The SRT-10 with its 505ci would seem to offer some advantages for aftermarket modification and max power. Comparing the performance figures of the two to date, the Viper is certainly a decent value prop not to mention you can drop the top and have enough cash left over to buy an SRT-10 coupe should they come around.

I think the Ford GT is a good value at its MSRP. No other car at its price can perform like it. I would never pay over list for it though. My next addition to the viper may be the Noble M400. That car should run about $90K and should beat any car (excluding an Enzo or Carrera GT) on the track. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if it beat them too. That's what 400hp/ton in a lightwt car will get you.

The GT is, as stated in the Ford Dealers order form, a 550HP car. It was originally touted as a 500HP car. That was nothing more than a smoke screen on Ford's behalf. Ford knew all a long it was going to be 550HP at final production. One of those, keep the competition guessing things, IMO.
If I knew how to, I'd take a photo of the Ford info stating 550HP and post it. My computer is a lot smarter than me, so I haven't ever figured out how to post photo's.
If it's 565HP at the wheels or not is yet to be seen. I tend to agree I don't think the "actual" production unit has seen the light of day. I know Bill Ford reportedly has taken delivery of Three units, but who knows if they are FINAL production trim units or not.
Retro or not, the Ford GT is the single coolest looking car on the market, period. It out styles my RT-10, and it out styles my GTS....by a long shot! The only thing close to it in styling is the Comp Coupe. Too bad rumors are that the Street Coupe IF built will not look like a Comp Coupe.

I'm not so sure though, G.M. had NO problem selling a $70K Corvette in the early 90's w/ the ZR1. But I agree I doubt the Z06 will be $60K+.

Okay ... a small block 330ci V8 in a retro Ford body already quite heavily B O O S T E D to deliver its 550hp or a Viper SRT-10’s big block 505ci V10 delivering 500hp with loads of mod potential, stealth looks, and 12 years heritage ... not that the GT is bad looking but go figure which would be the ultimate victor in a power contest if that's your thing ... or is it more about measuring distance? If so, isn’t the hot ticket for the ego players the Ferrari Enzo, Porsche Carrera GT, or at least the Lamborghini Murcielago? Sure, that's a bit of a distance to cover but hey all this Ford posting on the VCA SRT-10 Forum could cause some to wonder.

Most people seem to be focusing on the power of the Viper vs. the Ford GT. That is just one factor here. From what I've read, the Ford GT will outhandle about everything.
We will see,soon.If it has 550 h.p.,that would be 470 at the wheels,maybe a bit more.I just dont like the retro thing,and stating the 3 year production deal.They are already working on the replacement to it.I just dont buy off on that kind of marketing.But Im old school.We will see.Ford has let me down MANY times in the last 35 years,and I feel another coming.

Ford will honor their numbers of 3500 but the loop hole is the next generation ford GT that comes after it. This is a test for ford and if it's a home run you know damn well they will follow the GT up with a slightly modified model and either mass produce it or make another 3500-10,000 unit run. When all the madness melts away it's a business.
There wont be a next generation GT,in my opinion.They are digging up the graveyard on this one,and indications are they will dig up another grave and bring back the Cobra.And yes,its a business.But the buck should have stopped with the tbird failure.You dont see Chevy trying to make a buck with a re-styled midyear.I just dont like what their doing.But Im in the minority,I know.

Frankly I don't see Chevy making a buck with anything. Except for the Vette they do not have anything to compete, period. They are really dropping the ball. They have nothing to compete with the Viper, SRT-10, SRT-4, ect ect. They have gone down hill.

The world is getting smaller.....I just got back from driving my SRT approximately 4,000 miles to the Midwest and back. In Nebraska on I-80, I run into the two same Ford GTs that were here in Havasu about two weeks ago heading back to Detroit.
Don't count on it making just 470 RWHP. The 03 Cobras are rated at 390 crank HP but dyno as high as 380 RWHP 100% stock. The lighting is also underrated. Count on the Ford GT to be underrated as well just like their other supercharged V8's.....

Ford definitely raised the boost from the original tests of the Ford GT (0-60 in 3.8, 1/4 mile in 11.9@121MPH) to the most recent tests(0-60 in 3.3, 1/4 mile in 11.65@126MPH).
So I figure that they went from about 440RWHP up to about 520RWHP.
So if Ford can maintain a decent level of reliability and keeps the extra power of the tweaked prototypes (the official HP rating went up from 500-550HP) then they will still be very underrated when the car is available to buy.

Interesting that after all of the views of this thread that the $80K upcharge over List Price for the GT hasn't been a larger topic of discussion.

If you look at Ebay, it appears that 40k to 60k over sticker seems to be about what people will pay for the GT. I'm waiting until next year.
