That is incredible, but I just don't understand how/why someone would do that on a public road. Please be careful everyone as we enjoy these badazz machines!!

Ok, hope I don't start a heated discussion but I'd like to hear what is acceptable on a public road if 226 MPH is not! I hit the triple digits everytime I take the car out so does that make me a *******? Many other things I do make me a ******* but I don't think going fast is one of them, even though my wife does not always approve.
I guess what I am thinking is that maybe someone who thinks 226 is not smart feels that maybe 100 or 150 is (?).

i think any speed is fine if you have about 10 miles ahead of you of open road out in the middle of the desert. this used to be possible in arizona prior to the whole world moving here in the past 10 years!

150 is pretty dumb too. It's not you we care about... you can drive off a cliff for all most people care. It's the innocent people you might kill or damage their property along the way. Stomping on the go pedal on an open stretch of freeway for a few seconds is one thing... it takes a long time and a long stretch of road to get to +150. But at 200, 150, even 120... your reaction time cannot overcome the laws of physics.
It's people like you that want to play the smart@$$ numbers games that made the government say, "OK... these dumb@$$es can't drive safely, and insist on a number, so we'll say..... *55mph*. Nice and slow and safe.
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. If you can afford a Viper, you can afford to go to the track or strip.

And the next thing we'll hear is that you guys always drive the speed limit. But if that is true you probably own garage queens or are afraid you might break something if you go too fast.
Seriously, one can drive safe at relatively high speeds on public roads, and I do not mean neighborhood side streets while the local elementary school is getting out.

To answer your question.... yes it does. If someone is caught going that fast in my neck of the woods, we'll make sure the "*******" becomes a "sore-ass" after spending a couple of days in a cell with Big Bubba. We care about the safety of all motorists on our public roads and so should you. If you want to test the limits of your car, do it on a track.

It seems like you can punch it from 50-100 back down to 50-60 relatively quickly and safely (assuming no traffic or obstacles whatsoever) 150 + just seems like it would take a while to gather yourself if traffic was spotted, or much more dangerous to other motorists, God forbid a blowout. Maybe a blowout @ 100mph would still kill you, but the chances seem less to hurt others. My intent is not to preach, just hope that none of my Viper buddies injure themselves or others. Just visited my father's gravesite yesterday after learning he had died last Monday, 12/18 (non car related death). Very sobering.

I've had my car above 150 a few times. I can't say there's anything "smart" or safe about it, but the important thing is.....people shouldn't be doing this WHEN OTHERS ARE ON THE ROAD! I not only went very late at night on an interstate with no cars, I had a friend of mine drive a mile ahead and continue cruising at 70mph to double check for traffic. Once we passed him, we shut down.

Since you serve our country, I think that you deserve a civil answer. You may be the best driver in the world, but an equipment failure at the speeds that you mentioned in your post could cause a complete loss of control of your vehicle. So, unless you have four lanes clear ahead and behind and no one coming in the opposite direction, you are taking a risk with the well being of others that you do not have a right to take. Remember the idiot in basic training who did not properly clear his rifle after completion of training at the firing range? You know, the guy the drill seargant wanted to kill. Similar issue. Have fun! Drive safely.

Well he had a video that I posted on here last week that he was doing 205 MPH so I guess 226 MPH for him is not out of the question. I just went to put the link to the old video in this post and it says it has been removed. I guess the story is true. I bet the police department saw the video and watched Captree intensively. Never understood why people would film outrageous speeds, let alone put their face ALL OVER the video.

Might I suggest that for those of you that really want to go fast and not worry about getting those tickets, consider the Nevada Open Road Challenge or Silver State Classic.

I had the pleasure of doing it in the 130 group as a navigator in 2004, returned and competed along with 8 other Vipers in 2006. Next year is the 20th anniversary.
It has everything from the 1 mile shoot out (where I got to over 161 mph in my GTS even at over 5500 feet of elevation!) 0-100-0 competition, car show, parade and the main event, 90 miles of closed public highway.
The 1 mile shoot out brought out no less than 5 cars boasting over 900 hp from a Twin turbo-Lambo to a TT Viper and TT Ford GT to an Ultima GTR and there was even a NASCAR Monte Carlo.
The price for the event is real reasonable too! I highly recommend it! We had 3 Vipers make the more than 1200 mile trip and we are all planning on doing it again next May.

I admit that 226 is probably too fast for any public road since I doubt safe condition could be had at any time of the day or night. My point was that occasional high speed runs can be safe under the right conditions. I venture to say that vurtually everyone here with a Viper has driven faster than what some might consider "safe".
On I-95 here in Florida it is common place for cars & trucks of every make and model to do triple digits, and lots of times there are in groups doing it in a safe manner (i.e., using turn signals, no sudden movements, etc.). However, I have seen many doing those kind of speeds that shouldn't be - cell phone in one hand, etc. When I take a fast ride my stereo is off, no cell phone in the car, etc. and I am constantly watching for others. Does that make it 100% safe? I'll be the first to say it does not but then again, I did not buy a Yugo.

Damn... hate to label myself a wuss, but I've never broken 100 on a public road in the Viper. Not worth it to me.
226 on a public road? I would hazard a guess that any way you slice it, he is going to be doing jail time. Forget the fine and the price of his expensive toy. It will be jail time for him.
I rarely get any of my vehicles up over 100 mph anymore, maybe 110 mph passing sometimes. Grew out of that about 15 years ago. Just not worth it today.
Knowing any of my cars can easily exceed the 155 mph mark is enough for me. Who are you going to prove it to, and there is just no point.
Sorry to offend anyone but dumba$$ is about the nicest I can say for anyone that does this on a public road. The track and a controlled environment, that is a different story.
Even night driving has deer, etc. best road in the world is no match for a Moose crossing it.

For what its worth...The road at Captree is very long...Over 15 miles of straight road and its relatively wide open and traffic free...BTW with the power the GT is putting down it will get to that speed in a relatively short straight..So the window of danger isnt as great as if he was on a well traveled parkway and needing alot of room to run that fast..

someone told me about it, and i know the guy that got caught,until its posted by the newspaper or media im not saying who, all i can say is he also has a maxed out new z06 and a shelby cobra and previouly had a twin turbo liengenfelter yellow c5.

Speed is relative. 226 mph on the way to Alpha Centuri is dog *** slow.
And sometimes, driving 65 mph surrounded by grandmas who don't check their blind spot, drunks, people shot up with pain killers all looped out, illegal immigrants with no insurance, etc, at those times, 65 mph is absolutely crazy. Better to just park it.

You guys should try the Nevada Open Road Challenge. Held twice a year in Ely, Nevada.
