I think I can guess the answer to this, but curious ...

I now have 3.45 gears ... they had to adapt from 7/16" bolts to 3/8" bolts in the rear end. Is there any significance to this? Could this potentially mean a lower HP rated rear end?

BTW, I love the way the car drives now

The car should come standard with 3.55's. Regarding the use of (10) 3/8" ring gear bolts instead of the factory 7/16" ... Gen 1&2's used the 3/8" bolts and plenty are pushing 1000hp+ Enjoy it. :2tu:

I thought the stock SRT10 cars came with 3:06 gears (not 3.55). Did I miss read the previous post??

I believe SnakEye is saying that DC SHOULD have put 3.55 in stock. "Should" = should have been that way not you should have found 3.55s in your car from the factory.

Now some comments from a Gen II guy who recently went with short gears. When I first got my car is had Gen III size rear tires and stock gears. I think the gearing was retardely tall, so tall that driving in parking garages/parking lots and trying to launch ******* Pilots was frustrating. I then switched from the tall 19" tires to stock height 18" Kumhos V700s. The shortening of the gearing from doing this is right about 0.20:1 and it definitely made the car drive nicer. Now I have finished the equation by going with 3.55 gears. Wow I cannot believe I had the car for almost a year without them. Parking garage is like a normal car, launching on the sticky tires is awesome and if you do get wheel spin it is easier to pedal the car with short gears, and unless I added a big spray or SC kit I could still finish the quarter mile without having to shift to 5th gear. With your tall Gen III tires gears would HAVE to be very helpful and a 3.73 would be the same gearing as a Gen II with 3.55 did to your tall rear tires.

interesting. I never thought through the additional inch of height in my rear tires. So it sounds like to get the same affect as a 99GTS with 3.55 gears, you'd need 3.73 gears in the 2005 to make up for the additional 1 inch (25 v 26) in the 2005.

hmmmm.... Is that correct?

Jay ... maybe but 3.55's are plenty of gear for most as the Gen3 does have more power from the start. 3.55's do sell about 5 to 1 and that says something. Whatever ratio you should choose more than likely you'll enjoy them more than the stock EPA misers.

The difference in the tire hieght is even more than an inch - 26" vs. 27.4" I believe. When you plug the numbers into a gearing calculator a 3.55 with the shorter Gen II tires is the same as a 3.73 with that taller Gen III size. Once someone comes out with a sticky tire in the 19" Gen III size an SRT-10 with 3.73s would be a monster (if the diff held up).

P.S. And I remember seeing someone on this board running the super tall Bridgestones for the Enzo - 3.73s for sure in that case. In any event, guess at your best possible trap speed in the quarter mile then run the shortest gear that will allow you to run that trap speed while still in 4th gear so you do not have to shift to 5th if you ever go drag racing.
