How big of a difference do 3.55 gears feel on modified vipers?
Is it better to run stock gears with nitrous or 3.55?

go at least 3:55, too many guys on this site are simply too conservative, nitrous or SC, 500Hp or 900Hp, its all good with 3:55. for those VCA and authoritues that say you cant hook up with anything over 3:55, I say you cant drive! I drove a dealership owners viper with 4:10's and it was easy to drive no problem felt great. only drawback was i wouldnt take it on highway for long trips. if i would have known then what i know now i wouldve got 3:73 not 3:55 (4:10 not for me as i drive wayyy too much for them gears). now on a lighter note if youre not a daily driver like me and racing and high HP (600 or more) stick with 3:07 or 3:55, again depending how good you can drive.

It's actually a relationship, the drive shaft and pinion on up spin faster than it did with the previous gear as you go up in numbers. However, you are not using an RPM range you have not encountered before. Though you are utilizing higher RPMs more than you did with the previous gear.

With a 3.55, your drive shaft will rotate 3.55 times in one rotation of the tire. With a 3.73, the drive shaft rotates 3.73 times with one rotation of the tire. The diff doesn't spin any faster.

What mods do you have?
I have seen cars making serious power have a very hard time hooking up, even with the stock gears. Our LETHAL 650 and 750 packages are perfect examples of this. Depending on your goals and power level, you may also want to look at 3.31s or 3.45s. I have the stock gears with the LETHAL 750, and it's not easy to hook up at all in 1st or 2nd. On ocassion, I'll spin slightly in 3rd too.
