Hi all, My 96 GTS is now at Tators Dodge to have my new 8# Roe S/C installed...Yahooooo...Right now I have 452 RWHP with the 3.55 gears, which is a great combo. It seems like going back to the 3.07 gears may be the way to go with the S/C. Does anyone have some expert advice on this, or had this setup? Chuck said I will have around 650 RWHP. He thinks the 3.07s would be best, and I tend to agree, but would like to hear some more input. The car is street driven only...Thanks...AL...

Keep the gears. You'll get bored way too fast with 650 and 3.07's. I bet after 10 minutes you'll be wanting more. I did.

I'd keep them too, at least until you see what you think. I ran 3.55's with my Roe setup, which made around 555/590 at the wheels, and I liked it much better than with the 3.07's, even with Pilots. If Pilots are too slippery with them for your taste you can always run the Kumhos (or if all you care about is going straight the BFG's).

Thanks...There are very few crazies in the world who have this setup and your input is appreciated...I dont mind playing catch up if I have problems hooking up... I always thought the 3.07s felt sluggish...just wasnt sure with the S/C the 3.55s were to much...The gears are already there so I might as well try them. I am putting 4 new tires on as well. I dont know if Im going with the new Pilots or the Kuhmos...Thanks...AL...

I had a 3:55 and put the 3:07 back in when the Roe was put on in January. I'm now wishing I still had the 3:55, but on Pilot's it may be a bit much, esp. 1st gear. I'd like to try something in the middle ( ~ 3:33 if they make it) next year. It will probably be better for the 1/4 mile too.

No one really talks about this much, but I feel once the tires break loose using 3.07's, it is very hard to modulate/hook back up... When I was running 3.73, modulating the throttle was easier, and if I did loose traction I just let off a bit and hooked back up very quickly. The stock 3.07 keep spinning for a few moments even when you let off the gas. Am I making sense? I really wish I kept the 3.73 (LOVED THEM with 430 RWHP), but sold them due to future HP++ plans (which never developed). Keep the 3.55's, or at least see how you like the combo before selling. Just wear a neck brace with 8 PSI Roe and 3.55's :D

I would not recommend Kuhmos on the front, only the rear. Because of the sand blasting effect. Mine drives just fine with Michelins front and Kuhmos rear. It's not really noticeable to most people.

00prowler, I have the exact same set up as you. The 3:55's I like for the 1/4 mile, I run through the trap just a little shy of 6000 rpm. The problem is as always, getting off of the line. At Bowling Green several people encouraged me to come out of the hole in second gear, this works great with your set up.
Long distance isn't too bad either, I drove 2500 miles round trip to VOI8 with only slightly less MPG than my running partner who had 3:07's.

I run a 3.45 rear gear with a 1" taller rear 19" wheel - which gives you and effective change of a 3.33.

00prowler: my best time so far has been an 11.3, mph has been 135, but that has not been consistant and I run stock pilot sports on my car so far. This has been my first year to drag race so I am still trying to learn alot about launching.

1TONY1 is just fast, good car and great driver, and if you havn't met him yet, one hell of a nice person also.

That is with a small shot of nitrous and stock motor. I would like to try a 3.33 to see if I could run the 1/4 on street tires without getting into 5th gear. I believe the 5th gear shift is costing me some et. I always start in first gear. To me, the 3.55's are better daily driver gears.....more useful rpm areas.

Stu, Most stock Vipers can only pull 5th gear with a 3.07. I don't know about stock with 3.55's but with a s/c and 3.55's I believe you can pull 6th gear. I have usually had all I want at the top of 5th gear.
