Hello all you Gen 1 and older Gen 2 owners - I've stepped up a notch to become a site supporter/advertiser to supply 40mm rear brake calipers. Many of you (over 125, actually) have these brakes already and have commented favorably - thank you again.

The special deal allows an outright purchase without having to return cores, although my preference is the usual cost+cores option. My introductory sales pitch is here:

http://forums.viperclub.org/new-pro.../620536-40mm-rear-brake-calipers-special.html

Please visit the website and feel free to send me comments about improving it.

Thanks to Big Brake Dave for his "co-opetition". I even plagiarized his banner ad! Between the two of us we should have any budget and performance level covered.

Great site Tom. I love my 40mm's and higly recommend them for all GEN I & II's. Now, for your next project if you could get us switchable ABS for under a grand that would be something...

It's a great Mod. I have been using them on and off the track for years now. BIG Difference when threshold braking. :2tu: Wouldn't track my car without it.

This is a great (an affordable) mod for those looking to improve their stopping power without doing a full big brake or SRT package. I've been very happy with mine.

I installed these on an old Gen II of mine, and was pleasantly surprised. Worked great for autox and road racing. I think I bought 38's, I can only imagine that 40's would be even better.

I'm new to Vipers...Always had Porsches (great brakes) To be honest...the braking in my 1995 RT/10 was down right SCARY!!!

I ordered the 40MM calipers from Tom and didn't expect anything more than a marginal improvement.

My expectations were SURPASSED!!!!! Excellent, easy modification that completely changed the way the car stops!!

This would be THE FIRST mod I'd do if I purchased another Gen 1 or 2 Viper.

I've posted how-to instructions so you can see what's involved in replacing rear calipers on your own. As always, you'll have my phone number to call even in the middle of the job.

How to Install

I'd put this in the supplier section, but seems that's under construction at the moment and I can't get in. I've also inquired about adding this to the site's Illustrated Guide section.

The 40mm rears are awesome. I use them with my Stoptech front kit and the balance is superior to any other Gen2 set-up i've driven.

The instructions make it look so easy... think a newbie to working on cars can do it?

Warfang, I have changed the calipers on my own car about 8 times during the development from the original 38mm to the current 40mm size and the various small improvements. Add on another half dozen times for the first local customers, and few more (thanks to LiqouRT) lately that I finally remembered to take some pictures. It's not hard. If you do this, as with everyone, you'll get my phone number to call anytime.

The two tricky parts I give you hints for - removing the brake cable with pliers instead of unbolting the brake lever arm, and then violently exercising the parking brake handle during bleeding to get all the air out.

As goofy and self-serving as it sounds, I still love to hear unsolicited comments from customers that say it was a bigger improvement than they expected. It's really how the car should have come from Dodge.
