$50 clutch slave cylinder hack for the unobtainable 1992-2010 Factory unit and LUK LSC134

After seeing some mention on facebook about a workaround for the unobtainable clutch slave cylinder for 1992 to 2010 Vipers, I decided to test out out the rumor. And it is absolutely true.

The $50 Luk LSC002B is EXACTLY the same unit as the no-longer-available $300+ Luk LSC134. Same base, same height, same inner diameter, same shaft diameter, same throwout bearing.

The only difference is the bleeder and the pressure fitting.

All you have to do is tap out the roll pin that secures the pressure fittings on your original slave cylinder and the new LSC002B, and then swap them, along with the rubber seal. I ended up reusing the rubber seal from my original slave cylinder as the pressure fitting flt tighter with it than the new seal on the shorter fitting. Then tap the roll pin back in. You then swap out the original longer bleeder for the short one on the LSC002B, or use as most people do, install an aftermarket remote bleeder line for easier bleeding.

Here are some camparison photos of my original 1992 vintage slave cylinder and bearing, and the new LSC002B in the middle and a Sachs SO536/SH6151 (a relabeled LUKLSC134 under a different brand name).

BTW, the LUK LSC002B is a Ford/Mercury application. For example, it fits the 1989 Thunderbird with a V6 and manual transmission.

Good to know! I just snapped the quick connect off of mine back when I was putting my engine back in recently. Went looking for a replacement and no one had stock anywhere. I remembered that I had bought the same throwout for my 67 Dart with a T56 swap though, and on that one I had replaced the factory quick connect with an AN adapter as my aftermarket master didn't have anything like that. Luckily I kept the quick connect though and swapped it onto the Viper one. Will have to keep this in mind for the future for sure.

Super shout out THANK YOU for this wonderful tip from NJSteve , I had been searching for the unobtainable factory replacement slave for 6 weeks , watching my car collect dust during this beautiful weather waiting on a part that can't be found . I was on a waiting list for one , that I paid $350 for. But I tried this alternative and now I have my car back up and running. Thanks for sharing.

Glad it worked out for you. That's awesome! It is just unfathomable that this interchangeability info wasn't put out there by any of the manufacturers. Its a $47 part that is an exact replacement for the factory unit. Has anyone else tried the LSC002B on a Gen 4 Viper. I just installed one and the one of the clutch plates doesn't fully disengage. Wondering if the distance that the piston travels is slightly greater on the original slave and the LSC002B throw is sufficient for a single disc clutch but not enough for a twin disc.

The Gen 4 should be the same as the Gen 5, both using a 6060 and a twin. The listing for a Gen 5 is a MOPAR 5038636AA or a SACHS SB60358. There might be a depth difference in the slaves.

Well, they have different part numbers for sure ... Much stuff was carried over from fourth to fifth gen (steering rack, control arms, etc.), but why should they replace the cylinder without cause? On the other hand the green part looks very much like the cylinders I've seen in other TR6060 applications (ZR1, Camaro, CTS-V).
I'm going to replace my clutch (4th gen) with a nth moto triple disc during next winter (leaking oil seal at engine rear end) and it would be most interesting to me what parts are compatible.

We're in dire need of more opinions! Does the LSC002B work on ZB-IIs? Is the the only other option the ZD-cylinder? Or are we damned and have to go stock (good luck)?

Update: The LSC002B works on the Gen 4. My disengagement problem was due to a defective pressure plate on the new clutch.

FYI, there are still some LSC134 slave cylinders around. I just bought one from Parts Geek for $120. It arrived in less than a week. They showed to have 8 in stock when I bought it.

@bthibodeaux Yeah, they're also on ebay ... However I'll go with the LSC002B - I had to support MOPAR and their greedy folks far too long because of 'rare parts' whilst rebuilding my car.

Ha, does anyone else think that they only changed the cylinder in the 5th Gen because there wasn't enough 'old LSC134 stuff' around? They reused everything they could - no wonder that almost every part is rare by today. I scorn MOPAR for building such beasts but not keeping them alive - what struggles gonna Demon owners have to face once their cars are older than 5 years and are in need of simple maintance parts? I'm not complainig, though - as German I never wanted to be part of the overbearing overpriced ***-Porsche family ... On the one hand they offer every part you need (for stupid money) on the other hand it's ridicilous how (relatively cheap and easy) you can achieve the same performance with American simplicity - I don't regret my descision and will stay true to the uniqness of the Viper-concept that makes it one of a kind in automotive history (huge displacement OHV-NA-V10 + RWD + manual transmission + almost no electronics + front mid-engine + steel frame + fiberglass body + double wishbone suspension all around) ;-) There are better ways to go for sure, but none will ever be comparable to the Vipers raw soul.

would you recommend the LUK LSC002B or LUK LSC134 for a 94 RT 10. cost are relatively similar on rock auto right now but hard to understand if both include the bearing and everything needed.

and if one would have more durability then the other

If cost/availability ARE an issue, the purpose of the exercise is to get you to see the wisdom in buying the 002B, then swap the quick disconnect fitting from your existing slave cylinder.

that is how i took it i just wanted to confirm. on the rock auto page the LUK134 does not mention including the bearing, etc. so i mainly wanted to confirm i was getting everything i needed with the 134 since it is available now.

But if i can save $60 and have essentially the same product and reuse the quick disconnect fittings that is the way to go.
