It is not worth blending yourself; the 91 recommendation is a minimum after all.
However, it is nuts to think that searching out and using the absolute highest is automatically helping you in some fashion.
For an example of this, ask anyone that has used E85 how well it starts up when it is cool out and how much fuel dilution they have in the oil. Ethanol is high octane, poor volatility, high latent heat of vaporization, and stresses the engine oil. Or try straight toulene because it's also high octane, low volatility and ... Anyway, the point is that the OEMs have designed the fuel system for certain parameters beyond just octane and in some versions of gasoline, some characteristics are on the boundaries of what they want to see.
So now we can all go nuts again.
