\'94 RT/10 for under $20K

Just found this Viper while looking around.

1994 RT/10 w/ 46K miles for $19,800.00 in Los Angeles. Ad says it's in excellent condition - but ads tend to say that... Still, could be a great deal for someone.

Almost sounds like TOO good a deal...but, if not...dammit...need to get $$ together..this is RIGHT in my ball park!

Well, so far, CarFax at least looks clean on the car...4 owners. One listing in '95 when it was sold said:

Sold at auction
in Pacific Southwest Region
Listed as
a fleet vehicle


Not sure what listing as a 'fleet vehicle' means. Any ideas?

Also, is it common for used Vipers to be sold at 'auctions'? I don't mean the eBay kind...

i think there may be a typo in the listing...appears to be a dealer, and no phone # is given...

if they can flip it for 20, what did they get it for, 15??

I sent an email asking where I could see the car. No reply as yet.
This looks like a very low price for a car with no problems. I would think any dealer could quickly sell the car for at least $5k more than the asking price.
I don't believe it's real.

Funny...if I got into www.carsdirect.com and just initiate a search, using my zipcode, but, doing a nationwide search for vipers between $10K-$20K...this car does not come up in the results for me.

How did the original poster find this? Can anyone else starting from scratch on this site pull this car up with normal search?

OK. I always like to expose a scam, but you be the judge. Here is the reply I received (exactly):

Obvious scam guys. Play along and I bet the next e-mail asks you to send the money via Western Union or some such. Posts like this could potentially damage the value of the lower-end cars though. People will say "But I saw one for under 20K on the Viper Club web-site. Why are you asking for $35?"

This guys sells all kind of cars that he doesn't own. He tried to sell me a 2004 Viper for 32000.00 He just wanted 2000.00 up front first through western union. He is crazy. He wrote me a real long letter on how to send the money and how to give him all my security information.

DONT EVER GIVE YOUR MONEY AWAY WITHOUT THE PRODUCT IN YOUR HANDS PERIOD!!!

Today at the Fredericksburg Auto Auction (dealers only) in Virginia, a red 1994 RT/10 with over 20K miles sold for $34K plus fees, which would run about another $1K at that selling price. $35K total. The car was very clean.

Pretty strong price, considering it was at auction.

I received the same email about the car being in the UK.
I told him I had an agent in the UK and asked where I could see the car.

This is a scam. Cynical Joe was the first to call it.

If I get a reply saying where it is, I'll pm you.
There will be no way this car can be seen or bought in person. It is a scam.
I'll bet if someone said they would wire him $100 as a deposit, the scammer would take it. He will take any deposits he can get for any amount and then go away.

He doesn't have this car.
