I have been watching these GTS cars for a while, In Vegas, one went for 45k, not in the best condition. This one, my guess will go for 52-56 k, but no more. I will be there to make sure it gets there, or I will be bringing it home ! Watch and see.

What I cannot understand is the 993 and 997 GT3/GT3RS market. Looking at the prices the P cars are going for and what you get for your money I am shocked that the Gen II Viper market is not through the roof. Not saying it is bad, I think they actually hold their value really well, especially the low mile, low production number one year only colors. The Viper is a very unique piece of history that was the fastest cars on the road in their time. It is a timeless design and still a very fast car even by todays standards. It has more road presence than any car I know. It also has some of the lowest production numbers out of most cars both foreign and domestic. I am not sure what drives these markets but I am mystified when I compare it to the used Porsche market.

My question to you is why do you own such a piece of crap and even bother posting on this forum. If I were you I would not even want to be associated with, as you call it, such an abysmal build quality car that is dropping in value quicker than the stock market did in 2008. My advice to you is to sell your Viper and cut your losses and move on to the GTR forum.

Anything Electronic I cringe. The more add ons and my stomach turns. I grew up with early 70's Vettes with Sidepipes shaking my house when started. My first car a 70 Challenger and moved through Corvettes.. Camaros.. etc... I Love them all.
The fact that ever stringent safety standards and emissions creep up everday on us it is a blessing to have such creature comforts.

For me, nothing replaces the feeling of a machine that needs a steady hand to finesse it's power. The taming of raw power that can turn on you if your not fully aware and informed of its reactions on the road. We take the feel out of cars for numbers. Sometimes numbers are not everything but the sensation one ride gives.

Traction control, Fully Automatic, Nanny controls etc sort of destroys my idea of what a car means to me.

Future Values I couldn't forecast but have a feeling they might hold very well.

I Love the 96 GTS for what it is. An unrestricted Demonic Machine capable of Super Performance while being somewhat contemporary borderlining on being Prehistoric in Muscle car DNA.

I have to agree with about the sensation being more important than the numbers. I drove the McLaren MP4 12C and while it was an awesome car which was super fast it put the power down to the road so easily with no drama it was actually boring to drive. How many 10 second cars have you driven than anybody can click off a 10 second 1/4 mile and almost get bored doing it. Too much technology IMHO. You drive the Viper, not a computer. This is why cars like the 993tts or 997 GT3 are so popular. They are "drivers" cars. New is not always better.

Why the 97RT/10?

In my opinion I think the market will not only be set by the vehicle but the people with the money.. the typical 18 year olds don't have it.. Think about the Countach.. when I was growing up everyone had that poster on the wall. Now the guys that dreamed of that car have careers that are allowing them to get it. Same with the viper.. Ive been dreaming of one since the 96GTS came out. I got the diecast model and all and its followed me everywhere from college to every base I've been to. So now I've gotten to a place where I can get one and Im looking.. As we get older and we get more financially stable we go back and get the things we dreamed of.

Stop with this selling tactic. A 20 year old "any car" with 5k miles is not the deal of the century. A car that sits for 10+ years is not a gem unless you want to buy it and let it sit another 10 years thinking you're going to hit the jackpot.

Not to mention that car will NOT look like that when it shows up. Those pics are beyond doctored up. EZ on the sharpness and saturation!!

I think rare/low production numbers will equal long term collector value. They have made less Vipers that most other exotics, and it is a good old American piece of history. They will double in current resale value in the next 20-25 years IMHO.

Sorry to be the voice of reason; but I've actually seen the car. I'm local, he's a great guy with a great collcetion.

That said, his particular GTS is not really a spectacular "benchmark car". It's stock and just got a good detailing and great photo shoot for the spread. That's it. It's not uber-pristine (or it wasn't until it was detailed).

35-45 range for any good Gen2 GTS is still reasonable market. I suspect his may bring a little more but it has to reason to reset the market by any means.

Kind of an important car for the RT/10 guys. Only RT/10 to be painted "Viper Blue", first RT/10 to be manufactured at the New Mack plant. Smooth hood and only made 113 total that year.

The 1996 Viper GTS Coupe, with only 3,500 miles on it, actually sold for $60,500 after adding in the 10% buyers commission! Ironically, a mint Blue/White '97 with half the mileage sold for $10,000 less...go figure.

Thats correct you have to pay for buyers comission and that is added ontop of the price.
And a 97 sold for 50k... Very Good as this is an indication buyers are out there seeking these cars and paying strong prices for them even though they are like 17yrs old.
I had bit the Bullet a couple of years ago as I saw nothing else comparable to 2nd Gen GTS' s for the sheer Super Muscle performance and looks that seem awe inspiring today as when they came out almost 20yrs ago!

Let's be very clear, the seller of the pristine '96 B/W car at the $55K hammer price actually nets much closer to upper $40's with the cost of transportation to BJ for the car and the seller(~$1500 for car and owner), listing fees ($500-$1500 depending on day and time), prep fees ($200+) and seller premium (8% - $4000). It ***** to be a seller at many of these auctions. Private party sales almost always bring better net prices for the seller. The auctions would like you to believe otherwise but unless you have a very rare car, not likely.
