Great story!

I have driven an older (1998?) 911TT back-to-back on a track, vs my 96 GTS and found as you did that the Viper clearly wins in the straights......

And the forgiving AWD 911 held the cornering the same, but was more forgiving of a new drivers inputs. and would recover immediatley with more throttle! And 911 braked much better.

Most car mags found performance very equal-ish

Old Rascal, YOU NEED the cat back, torque some more to Jon B and just do it; you wouldn't even run the comparison test then!! (Our beloved 'Euro' snakes are so choked up with the OE pipes)

Difference:

911 TT - $115K PLUS options

Viper - $75 MINUS Buhler/Woodhouse HUGE discount!

You're talkin' BIG difference!

We own both a 98 GTS and a 01 Turbo...they are extremely close in acceleration. You have to give Porsche credit for building a 6 cylinder that will hang with and sometimes beat Dodge's V10. The only trouble with driving the porsche is that it doesn't recieve half as much attention as the Viper. Not many people know what it is.

The thread that Jeff posted from the Renlist sounded pretty sad. The Porsche guys seem almost defeated. One guy even said the Porsche would make a better daily driver than the Z06. I had the 993TT and it seemed to be pretty close to the Viper in performance.

Man that Porsche list...it's like reading little girl posts about who's got the better accessories for their barbie dolls.

I just wish the Z06 that bested the 996 had a K Car body.

Viper has a higher drool factor than the Porsche and doesn't get the same rich b*****d comments. Most people seem to admire the viper in the same way they will admire a big motorcycle. Maybe Viper is just more friendly

I really like Porsche's policy of not letting dealers gouge consumers by adding "market adjustments" to the MSRP's on cars. I wish the Chevy and Dodge dealers were the same.

In regards to the Porsche dealers not being able to add a mark-up past MSRP,

I went to a Porsche dealer who shall remain nameless (Located on Irving Park Rd in Chicago) only to find that every car in the showroom has "Dealer Installed Rust Proofing". It was quite interesting that on a standard Boxster it was an extra 2K to rustproof, while a boxster S was about 7k ro "Rust Proof". Last time I checked larger rims, better breaks and a bigger motor should not cause an extra 5k in "Rust Proofing".

But it is great to hear that they are not able to add any Mark Up beyond MSRP!!

My experience with buying Vipers (i am only on #2) if you deal with one of the big viper dealers (most of whom advertise on this site) you will pay a reasonable price (between MSRP and Invoice). Obviously when the new cars first arrive some people are willing to pay a huge mark-up to have the first one in town.
