I'm looking to do Vinyl Stripes on my 98 GTS. I'm not overly concerned with looking like it's original since it won't be anyway.

I'm interested in opinions and pics on whether or not to do the Hood scoop and/or the rear plate area ?

Also... I've seen the posts on color for striping a silver GTS and I know which way I am leaning but pics would also be appreciated... I've seen some Silver Cobras with red stripes... Anyone done that to a Viper ?

Mine has the top side of the NACA duct covered, not the inside. Like you said, it's not original to the car, so while kill yourself trying to cover the inside edges. It looks great like this, IMO.

Yes, Red Snake's look really good...most probably wouldn't even notice. I say do it that way. Many like the license plate area striped like the 96 B/Ws were...personal preference. I personally like the license area non-striped.

Explaining Viper things to you
Completely around and off the NACA duct. I prefer it that way.

Not through the plate area. I prefer it that way.

NACA Duct, Yes.
because it blends it into the hood as intended by the genius designer of the Gen2. (Daves looks like the duct is sitting on top of the stripes, i personally think that it looks just as off as painting the louvered vents a different color.)

LicencePlate Area, No.
with the stripes through the plate it looks like stair steps from an angle which is kinda weird. i assume this is the reason why the designers scrapped it after the first year and left the stripes untouched untill the end of the GTS.

Two more areas to consider:

1. Front lower lip. Below the chin of the facia is an air-dam that some continue the stripes through, and some dont. Stock there is none. I unknowingly painted mine althwaythrough when doing my facia. My nieghbor pointed out that now when you look at the car from a distance the stripes down there call out just how low she is... Not sure which i prefer.
What do yall think?

2. Rear lower bumper. Niether of the two Red vipers pictured above have it. The Blue one does. All stock GTS's have em. Do it.

It's personal. Do a mock up, take some pictures of different stripes & see which one get you excited.

Though not stock, I too like the front lower lip striped. The rear license plate area wasn't striped after 1996 to: differentiate GTS year one and because it was an expensive and difficult added process.

Its all a matter of personal preference. Here're some pix with stripes through the plate area, through the NACA duct and the lower lip. Its a 98, so this is not from-the-factory configuration of the stripes but I like it:

.....and without the plate

Right now I'm leaning towards nothing on the scoop or the rear plate area. I like the scoop sorta hilighted. What I'm wondering is how far under each bumper to go ?

I think this car looks awesome...

I'll have to dig up pictures of my car with vinyl stripes but the stripes went around the duct, didn't go through the license plate area, and didn't go underneath the bumper cover. This drove me nuts, so when I had the stripes painted on, I did it my preferred way:

Is that your phone number for a plate LOL?

Nope, but I'll dial it and see what happens!:)

Not to hijack the thread, why is it that folks blur-out the plates when posting photos? This is an old pic and the plate is from a state I no longer live in so I figured what's the damage...but I still don't know why folks do it. Can you illuminate?:dunno:

I know, that's my point. How come people blur the plates out? What does it protect?

I think the stripes are fine for the money. Most folks will not know if they are paint or not. And you can remove them if you want to. There is a place called BMC EXTREME CUSTOMS that sells the GTS stripe package. It is pre cut to fit the GTS.They say they fit much better with the custum cuts. Anyone used these BMC stripes or heard of anyone who has. I like the fact that they are pre cut for each part of the car. They also sell them on Ebay also.I am thinking of using this kit.

The vinyl is on the way... Shooting for the weekend after next. Right now I am leaning towards putting nothing on the duct or the plate area. I'll look at it and then if anything may just add the top of the duct. I'll post some pics when it's done.

Hey v10enomous, Did you do the Stripes?. How did it go? I'm having the same questions.
