i think mine is on worng because it takes me about ten to twenty mintues to figure out how to get filter down out you have to slide it from ne side to other side and it drops out after you get a oil bath!!!!

Mine wouldn't do that. I tried everything possible to get that filter out a hole anywhere, no such luck. I ended up cutting enough off the gusset to slide a filter through. It works, but I need to get this fixed correctly.

What year car do you have? If its a 96 RT the filter it tough no matter what you do.

Then you can use a cutoff wheel and trim the plate back far enough for the filter to clear. Just stay away from the frame rail you don't want to nick it with the power tool.

For those who stated above their recall has been "botched": If you do not have a Viper Tech close to you with a VAST experience in the correct Recall 998 and 999 procedure AND a large experience in correcting a "botched" Recall 998 or 999, you are invited to join Mr. Tom Sessions in Indy April 22-26, 2013 at Champion C-J-D-R. This will be the 6th time that we have done this....but keep in mind that advanced planning IS REQUIRED!!! See below:

Hello, All:

SPECIAL VIPER SERVICE SESSION #6 with Super Viper Tech Tom Sessions at Indy's Champion Dodge will take place on April 22-26, 2013.

SPRING is on the way...so, this is the perfect time to prepare your Viper for the cruising/car show/track days that are "just around the corner" !!
Historically, there has been considerable interest shown in this opportunity by our members, though some still have a few questions that I'll try to answer below (again):

#1 Tom will be here working as an official employee of Champion C-J-D-R. Therefore, ALL billing will go through the dealership's Service Department. Tom is NOT being hired by our Club.

#2 If parts need to be ordered, they can be ordered through the Parts Department. If the parts are not readily available, they can be installed on Tom's next visit.

#3 YES, there are currently PLENTY of time slots available for Viper work during this SIXTH SPECIAL SESSION. You can book YOUR SLOT by scheduling the work for Tom during these "SPECIAL VIPER SERVICE SESSIONS" through Mr. Mike Robertson, Service Advisor, Champion C-J-D-R, 4505 WEST 96th St, Indianapolis, IN 46268 ( I-465 Exit 27 ).

Mike can be reached by calling Champion's general number (317) 872-6200 Extension 2005. Mike "KNOWS his stuff", and is a great friend and supporter of our Club!!

#4 THIS IS NOT A CLUB "TECH SESSION" !!

#5 ALL Viper Owners are invited to use this service. So, if YOU are thinking about having work done on your Viper...CALL Mike ASAP !!!

#6 REMEMBER the dates: Monday (8:00 AM EDT), April 22nd through Friday April 26, 2013 (6:00 PM EDT) .

#7 As we are trying to accommodate as many owners as possible during this week long event, considerable pre-planning and REALISTIC scheduling are absolute necessities...especially if parts need to come from outside vendors (including RECALL KITS)!!! The old "my Viper needs service" declaration will need an expanded explanation!!

PLEASE contact Steve Fess with your service needs, repairs, upgrade/modification plans, and/or recalls so that we can help guide both the scheduling process and parts acquisition process in an efficient manner.

If your Viper needs a Recall or warranty work, I would suggest that you have your VIN handy when you schedule your appointment with Mike. If you need a "pre-session consultation", call me and I can try to arrange same with Mr. Sessions per telephone.

If you have general questions, please contact ME ASAP !!

If you would like, I can get mine in the air again and take a picture. I took off enough that the filter just slid through. I also have an oil leak, are these sessions for minor maintenance also? I don't mind fixing the problem myself, but would gladly pay for the diagnosis.

troublemaker:

#1 The Recall kits are ordered through the dealer with Tom's input using your VIN.

#2 Any service that you want can be done during these sessions...GENERALLY, with a "break" that we have arranged. :)

#3 Call ME if you want to consider this, please.

My very first Viper was a 1997 GTS I bought in 1998.....I took it to the dealer for this mod and after that changing the oil filter was a pain......It would NOT drop straight down like the rest of my gen 2 Vipers.....like mentioned here......I am just now finding this out all these years later thanks to this forum....good info comes on here a lot of times.......Thanks guys....

Steve, let me know who I need to send my Vin # to. I just need to find out when my slot will be to schedule a day off work. We are in our busy season right now, so I need to get the day cleared ahead of time. Preferably the earlier in the week, the better. I will assume all I need are the triangle gussets as the rest was already done. Tome mentioned to check the rear recall also, just to make sure that one was done correctly also. I will PM my Cell # if you have any questions.

Call Service Advisor Mike Robertson to schedule at (317) 872-6200 Extension 2005. I stopped by the dealership and spoke with Mike about your car yesterday.

Give your VIN to Mike so that kit(s) can be ordered.

I would suggest that you do this today.

Holy thread from the past!! :omg:

Unfortunately I don't think this is the last time you will see it. Who knows how many of the Chrysler screwed up. It looks like quite a few have been found recently. Its a shame it needs to be redone as a quick look during the process would have told them they had them wrong just by the location of the oil filter. A botched recall should be coveref by Chrysler, but that was pre bankruptcy.

Thanks Steve, I will touch base with him this afternoon.

Just a few months ago I had the 998 recall completed by my local metal fab shop near my house. I got the 998 recall kit from VPA ( no charge) then had it installed front and back. I paid the fab shop then sent the receipt to Dodge and got a check in the mail a few weeks later to cover the cost. Glen
