It appears it's quite common to have A/C issues with our cars. I tried to charge the system with a can of R134a, but it still blows warm air. Maybe I have other problems, but it doesn't appear to be leaking anywhere.

Anyone actually remove their A/C garbage? I know the ACR's were available without A/C and was thinking about going that route. I don't use the A/C while at the track anyhow, so it's just dead weight in the car. However we all know how hot they can get while street driving and in traffic.

Sorry for the rant, but I want an A/C system that works good, or no system at all. Maybe a functional roof scoop would help. Hmmm.......

Is your A/C compressor coming on when you turn it on (determined by viewing the center hub of the compressor)? If it is, I doubt you have an A/C problem.

Have you verified its not something as simple as the airflow flaps not changing? If the vent system vacuum line becomes disconnected from the right intake manifold (****** about four inches from the rear of the right side intake manifold), the flaps won't change position, which means no air is directed past the A/C. A good way to check to see if its working is to put the system in heat or defrost mode, and there should be no air coming from the dash vents. I would suspect ventilation system flaps not working before a failed A/C system, as long as your A/C compressor coming on...

Now, if you A/C compressor is not coming on, then, yeah, you've got an A/C problem. :(

Trainville, it is possible for the ac compressor to be running with a full freon charge, but if it has bad valves/rings, etc...it may be inefficient and will run at higher than normal suction/low pressures. It may be running at equalized pressures...high and low sides. (bad compressor) Only sure way to tell is to install a set of ac manifold gauges. If it is not running, check for an open low side pressure safety switch, and or low charge, you can also apply 12 volts directly to compressor.

Check the end of the cable that actuates the door/flap near the back (?) of that big passenger side HVAC box under the hood.

That can pop off the door crank/acutator lever sometimes.

Are you sure the level of refregerant was up to the necessary level? The compressor will not come on if the refreigerant level is below a certain level...
