Michelin has asked me to release the following message to the Viper website. Luke has already posted about it earlier in the weekend, but I want to make sure he gets the full support of the "official" Michelin announcement.
"Want to run at the VCA VOI7 drag race, but don't want to wear out your street tires? Michelin has a limited number of 335/35ZR17 Pilot Club Slick tires for sale through the Tire Rack at the unbelievably low price of $65 each plus shipping. The tires will be shipped to the track where Michelin will mount and
balance them for free. For those of you not familiar with the Club Slick, they are essentially a street tire cured in a slick mold for improved dry adhesion. They are NOT a racing slick with ultra-sticky tread compounds; therefore, the tires will need to be spun to heat up prior to launch at the drag strip to
obtain optimum grip. If interested, contact Luke Havlick at the Tire Rack at 800-428-8355 ext 362."
As far as the tire rules go for the VCA drag event, the last time I talked to Prashant Patel, our competition manager, nothing has changed to vary the existing rules which would only permit these Club Slicks, or anything ELSE other than normal "street" tires, as legal for the Modified II, Unlimited, or Bracket classes.
More soon.
