AC on my ACR

It has been extremely hot and humid here this summer and the AC on my ACR was working only partially. It wasn't keeping the car cool and I noticed it was cycling on and off (about every 4 seconds). I finally took it in today and they evacuated the system and refilled. I was surprised they said it only only holds a pound of freon.

Anyway, coming home from work today I turned it down the lowest fan setting and it still almost froze me out. I'm not complaining what with 100 degree weather here.

Been there still dealing with that. 1 pound of freon is all it holds but be mindful of the ambient temp when recharged. This sounds exactly like how my continuing story started. Works GREAT in the morning but in the afternoon it's good for about half of the 20 mile drive home..then starts cycling like you described. Manifold guages show all is good though.:brick:

I was just talking about this. My ACR is colder than my other daily driver cars. I usually have to turn it down to be comfortable. However, if you are on it, the AC does seem to cycle and not run when you are hitting some hard runs. But as soon as you return to 'normal' driving, it gets cold fast.

johniew398, did you ever determine the root cause for your A/C problem?? Low factory fill? Leak? Other??

Have a friend with a 2008 ACR having A/C difficulties...slow (small) leak. Has dye in system but the location of said leak is still to be determined.

My ACR will freeze the nuts off a penguin it's so cold even in 100+ degree days with ridiculous humidity. I actually get frost forming on the vent on the left side of the steering wheel.

When you get on it, the computer disengages the AC compressor clutch so that it's not leaching power. You'll get a burst of humidity coming through every time you stomp on it, but as soon as you back off, the compressor catches up fast.

No, they tested again for leaks and couldn't find one. So, it was never determined about the root cause.

You may be fine. Our 03 SRT-10's A/C was fine for the first summer (03)...but the next summer it produced only slightly cooler air than ambient. Viper Tech went through system, evacuated it, refilled it...and 6 years later, it's still fine.

So, in my mind, it was on the low side of R-134a at the time of delivery.

Hopefully, you will jave a similar experience !!

That was last year and did the same thing this year. Checked for leaks and recharged and it's fine. Looks like I will have recharge it every year.

My ACR AC seems to work fine for a while and then the air output decreases, kind of like the fan is on low when it is actually on high. I think it might be freezing up because after it does this if I park it there is a huge puddle that forms under the car. I'm told that a low coolant charge in the AC will cause it to freeze. Don't know why though.

Recharging every year is not right. This means thereis a leak inthe system. If running correctly, you should never have to touch it. Under warranty hopefully, get it fixed.
