I was looking at the front shocks of the new ACR the other day. The bottom of the front shocks appear to have a hard plastic ring. If you have a new ACR, take a look. Do you think that this will hold up over time? Just curious. I was surprised that it was not metal.

Hi Benny. I am trying to confirm that it is a hard plastic. Is it? If so, plastic seems like an odd choice.

Bob.....it is VERY possible. I have "KW Variant-2" coilover set I just put on another vehicle (not my Viper)and the bottom ring which allows you to adjust the ride height is indeed plastic.

Yes. The purple ring. It seems like an odd choice to use plastic for this piece. I wonder why they chose to do so. Any engineers out there want to speculate?

Hard to believe that part would be plastic.

They are billet aluminum on Motons and two of them are twisted together to keep they spring from moving.

I think that the purple part is called a spring perch and, based on the photos on the KW web site, the perch, as stated above, appears to be plastic. Moton shocks and Eibach springs are not made by KW.

Bob,

I have not had one of these off yet but it has a threaded allen head set screw and I believe there is aluminum under the Teflon. This may just be a anti corrosion technique they are using? Even if not the Teflon threads should be able to support this no problem and they would never seize up.

Oh by the way I will be out of the office Friday attending an SRT experience weekend. We are getting a class on the ACR and will hopefully be able to do some hot lapping in the SRT lineup! I also hope to learn a little about the ACR. If anyone needs something though you guys know you can always reach me on the cell or Email, I'm never too far away for work!
