What insurance companies are people finding to be receptive to covering the ACR and still retaining coverage on "DE type" track days? My insurer was recommending someone like Hagerty.

My agent is a track rat also and he swears that State Farm will cover you. Other agents have said no they won't. I have a link for racing insurance that NASA emailed me. The cost is about $1200 for 8-9 events with a $4000 Deductible. I think I'm going to buy that coverage in addition to my regular policy next year. It's worth the peace of mind if you plan on going very fast.

Most new policy's I am reading exclude damage at a racing facility or any area designated for speed in excess of legal speed limits.

ViperDays is technically a school unless you join the Racing League, and those that I know who have had mishaps and claimed the repair on their insurance did not run into any problems. With this said, knowing how bitten you are with track days, I'm sure you will be looking to run at a variety of different events. Any chance your car gets here for the Dec. 13 event at Gainesville?
Legal Files of Sports Car Market Mag had a great article recently. THERE IS NO SINGULAR ANSWER.... even within a company, coverage can vary by STATE (as noted the the NY Times article above as well.)
As a result of the recent Fontana Fatality, the author atty John Draneas claims that some major insurers have placed exclusionary clauses as noted by Mr tenney above. If there is NOT an exclusionary policy, you MAY be covered for non-competition events like drivers training.
If the event logs times, and/or gives awards, you are probably NOT covered. (This means drag races, all are timed!)
Fact: I have NEVER EVER been to a track day (and Ive been to HUNDREDS) where you were not asked to sign a liability release. Some say: PRINT NAME, SIGN NAME and DUTIES.
Some just say PRINT NAME and SIGN NAME.
Due to two cases in which I had to give depositions, I have always urged this:
Fill out that form as a STUDENT or INSTRUCTOR. PERIOD.
Print: Jon Brobst- Instructor;
and sign as Jon Brobst, Instructor;
If it states DUTIES, write STUDENT or INSTRUCTOR. Do not write DRIVER or PARTICIPANT.
If a claim ensues, your intent is obvious from the moment you came in the gate: DRIVER TRAINING

It will be here this Thursday. SRT-4 with be stage 3 turbo and hopefully stage 3r suspension by Dec 13th as well.

Cheryl -- could you post or pm me with the link for the NASA-endorsed insurance? I used Everitt Boles for driving school insurance this past season but the figures you quoted look a bit more competitive. Thanks.

Also, confirm with any of these insurance programs that they insure Vipers. I contacted WSIB before this past year's track season and they were about to insure me until they asked the make/model of my car. They informed me that they specifically did not insure Vipers.

Yes it's the HPDEins link. Recently, we also had one of the PCA guys put a link up for track ins but I didn't save it. You might check with them too. Viper Days would be more of a problem than a regular HPDE because they put a transponder directly in your car and post time sheets after every session. That's why Jon's advice is so good, always do what he said when you sign in and you are probably okay.
