ACR or GTS

Hi, Ive been a long time chevy fan, but cant seem to like the look of the C6.

Im considering a 2nd Gen GTS or ACR. Im aware of the major differences in terms of wheels, suspension, etc, but Im wondering if im missing anything. Ive also seen a 5 point harness on some ACRs- is that aftermarket? Would most agree that the ACR performs better than the GTS?

Also, ABS wasnt put in these cars until 2001? Has anyone ever had their brakes lock?

ABS 2001/2002

ACR is more limited, but more or less the same as the GTS. Performance is damn near the same.

ACR is a GTS with different shocks, smooth air intake tubes, and possibly no a/c, radio or fog lights(comfort package), 4pt harnesses, and not much else different

There are lots of people who fake it out there and just put on an "ACR" sticker on their car.

If you are going to do track time I don't think you can modify a GTS's suspension to an ACR level for the price difference between a GTS & an ACR. Different oil system (pan & filter bypass). So if you want the limited production factory track car buy the ACR. I've had both & would say I enjoyed the GTS for sunny day cruizing more but enjoyed the exclusivity & ability to play more with the ACR. By the way the factory harness in the ACR is a 5 point.

The ACR had one available option, and that was the "comfort group" that added A/C and radio. In 2001, only 4 ACRs were shipped without the comfort group. The ACR itself was a $10K option over the stock GTS.

The harnesses are 5-point (not 4 as noted elsewhere in the thread)

The shocks were Koni in the 99/2000 years, and Dynamic Suspensions in 01/02 (unless it was a mid-year 00 or 01 change, I can't recall). On the DS coilovers, the front springs are 700 lb springs and the rears 1100. It's REALLY REALLY stiff on rough roads. The Koni's were softer, but I do not know the spring rates.

The ACR has a different oil filter adapter that does not shut off oil flow through the cooler at lower speeds like the stock GTS.

Thanks for all the informative replies. Id prefer the A/C and radio option. I didnt realize you could get a viper without them.

Ive never autocrossed, but its something Ive always wanted to do. Limerock racetrack isnt too far from me. It would be wild to join a club and hit that track sometime.

Get your favorite color. I wouldn't worry about ACR or GTS unless I were a collector maybe.

My ACR has fog lights! It was a dealer install option.
