ACR tire replacement...OEM Sport Cups or PS2's or...??

My 2008 ACR has just over 11,000 mi. Trying to decide whether to replace the OEM's with another set of Sport Cups to keep it all original or go to the PS2's or...?? No wet weather driving or tracking. Just street driving. Your thoughts and opinions are appreciated. Thanks, Mike

Super Sports will SURELY be my next buy. My NT05s were great tires, but they got totally toasted at the last track day. They still have tread, but the grippiness of those is gone. Buddy that ran new SS tires did not have the same heat issues with his.

After researching and reading Woodhouse's review on Kumho ecxta XS I went ahead and ordered them for my gen 3, and I love the grip they offer. I have done some fun freeway pulls in cold weather and no traction loss starting at 60mph in 2nd gear! Also when warmed up I haven't had issues taking off the line, they hook and the car goes straight! Car puts down 497rwhp and 530rwtq with a curb weight of 3320lbs. For reference I have Nitto NT05 street tire on my Bolt on C6 Z06 and no traction loss there as well!. Both tires are good for Daily driving.

Read about the technology going into the Pilot Super Sports.

Think they are a pretty good choice for those who drive mostly on the street, but want to take in an occasional track day.

While there are stickier tires available, the combination of wet and dry street and track use makes them one of the top considerations.

Get the feeling that Pirelli is also working on something that might offer the same versatility.

I really like my Super Sports. They ride quiet, stick really well, should be long lasting, and do not follow the tram lines.

Blue- Nothing better on the track then R6's for our cars .(By the way it’s nota slick although it looks close) But yes I wouldn’t want to drive to the trackon it. Besides the r6 I would go with the cups.... There is also a new cup thatis suppose to come out.

You'll have to run the regular Viper front size 275/35-18 ....no big deal. I agree with the other guys as well, for street use, super sports will be the best choice hands down.

Another reason I went with the cups, I forgot to say that in my first response. I wanted the extra tire width up front.

When I drove my ACR with Sport Cups down the highway for the first time I thought something was wrong with my alignment. I found out that Sport Cups are notorious for "tracking" on the highway. I switched to PS2's and the problem went away. I'll give the new Super Sports a try next.

Yeah, no kidding, sport cups absolutely **** on the highway. Great on the track though. It's amazing how much different tires transform the car. Driving on a crappy 'truck route' highway can become quite an adventure.

Wow, you've been tracking with Invos? I've been through a few sets of those (price) and even though they're great on the street/highway, you're gonna be amazed at how much higher corner speed you can carry with tires that stick better than that. I've been on the fence for awhile about stepping up from pilot sport cups to hoosier R6's. We'll see what happens. Was using kuhmo XS for the last two seasons (now discontinued) -[I actually have one more, probably the last, full set of those to put on] I don't know when I'll use them now, cuz I'm wanting more stick than they offer. ...-If you end up tracking with the super sports, please post your opinion of them, I'm curious.

The Invos actually surprised the heck out of me. I got a pretty aggressive alignment and must have hit just right on tire pressure.
That said, I know I'll like most anything else even more on the track.

Currently track/race a Porsche GT3RS and have been burning through Sport Cups like toilet paper.... Tried the Super Sports last year and havent looked back.

They last way longer, are almost as sticky, better in the wet and cheaper to buy!

If you use the car on the street and drive to and from the track, then this is your tire. I will not be going back to Sport Cups as lap times/grip are not that much different.

You would be better off running hoosiers on track wheels than using Sport Cups on street wheels for the cost/grip involved....

I am sold 100% on Super Sports, however i have been hearing good things on Pirelli Trofeo in terms of grip, life span and heat cycles.
They are lasting longer than the Nittos and Toyo 888....

The new Trofeo R tire is supposed to wear even better....

I have an 08 ACR and about 11,00 miles. I am replacing with the OEM tires next week. I'm sure there are better tires for different reasons; but, I like the one's that came on it for me.
