Adjustable Exhaust Sound? Anyone tried?

Has anyone tried to modify a track type exhaust so you can dial down the sound
(and therefore HP) when just tooling around, going to dinner, work etc.
There must be some creative exhaust specialists who have engineered a solution of an adjustable baffle, cone, insert, flap etc. I would bet there is a market for a solution.

I too thought of this. It would be simple to make I believe, you just need a butterfly valve or something to bypass the cats to go through a straight pipe to get more air and equal more sound. Or you could put something there to make it louder.

I bought some cable operated cast iron valves from JC Whitney. Junk. I had the same idea to dump the exhaust when I wanted (at a stop light, just before it turns green)

There's a company that makes various sizes of electric valves that you weld in. Can't recall the name. I'll do a Google.

I went with the CCI 3 disk insert in my Corsa Track, cuts
the sound so that I don't need ear plugs but still loud.
Got them from Summit Racing, guy said at the most 5hp at
max rpm, it is what they use at the strip to keep within
the noise levels.

My former 91' Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR4 had adjustable dual exhausts but had much narrower exhaust system. It did work well from sound and performance standpoint. Bob

Perhaps a check with Mitsu could lead to a supplier?
