GENII Hoods look good on a GENI!
I've dun that to 9 GENI's so far. Get the front half of a GENII air box, that makes the Hood scoop functional [more HP]! If you have a GENI Hood you can have a GOOD body shop install the scoop and grilles in it [Lets the heat out].

I don't see how. I have a 1996 RT and the underside of the hood has the cutouts for the scoop and louvres.

However, the GenII hoood has a recessed "lip" to receive the scoop and louvres.

Basically, you cannot simply cut out the holes and mount the scoop and louvres...... if you notice the scoop and louvres mount "flush" with the surface of the hood.

Just my thought, tell me if I am incorrect because I seriously considered installing the scoop and louvres on my 96 hood.

I would do it but add the "extra" center hood
vent like on the viper race car!
If i was brave enough i would cut a hole in my hood and
add the vent it look sweet.

I just am afraid of ruining a very expensive hood.

but if you are working on a "spare" hood why not?

good luck

This is funny ,because last night I cut off the 3 holes in my generation 1 hood for the naca duct and the 2 grills.
The result is a success .

I will post pictures in couples days because the 3 pieces are at the paint shop now

Viper 505,

Would love to see those pics. If it is fairly easy to do, I am in! Where did you buy the NACA duct from and the louvres and how much? That is really the only thing that I want to change on the look of my car now....the hood!

Your right, you just can't cut and install. That's way I said a "Good Body Shop". What my body shop does is to take the pieces that they cut out and cuts them into strips and glues them around the openings edge [underside]. This makes a ledge for the grilles & scoop to sit on/factory look!

The car I just bought is a '94 and has the gen II hood on it. the stock airbox has to be modified (ie: cut) to fit the naca duct, other than that it fits right in.. I consider it the best of both worlds.. great looking hood and the awesome sidepipes.

I agree. I have to admit the GEN II hood does look great. Just yesterday I was looking at my car and thought it looked "old", and I think its mostly because of the smoothy hood. Its not just that it looks like a rebuild, but its not original anymore either.

Best part is since I have an RT, I can just add a GTS and that way I'll have the hood too.

you can buy OEM hoods for $3,900? I'll take 10!

If you read my post it says OEM "TYPE" Hood. Autoform states: "The Autoform OEM Type Hood comes primed and is available in both styles as printed above. This hood comes with an inner liner and uses your current hood mounting hinge system as opposed to the lightweight hood pins as listed above." $3900.00 Hope this helps Chad

I think you should consider ANY viper is a rebuilt wreck when you shop till you have it up on a lift and a tech go through it.. It's easier for people who are rebuilding a wrecked gen I viper to put a normal hood on em (cheaper too probably). Ones that scare me actually are the ones with numbers all over em.. or with engine mods who knows how hard they have been beat/ how many times wrecked on that nasty corner at the local raceway..

Anyways, it boils down to personal preference as far as looks. I bought my car to enjoy and drive and ultimately that is what matters.. to each their own

been going some work in paint after reading that some people think that the 97 RT/10 should have the new hood. Well, here it is, decide for yourself. I like it, but that's just me.
