Guys. Don't climb all over a price, which is not known yet, or complain about features that may or may not be an issue.
Be patient, and wait for some some feedback as to price & features. After some of the developers get a chance to present the final product.

Just consider this a heads up that something remarkable may be in the works.

Some of you guys can be brutal to someone who is just trying to offer a product, which maybe not perfect, that will appeal to a certain group of Viper owners.

what he said.

Think $4k is bad?

Try Motec. Spend $10k on Motec and you'll still not nearly be done - not even close if you want all the fruit. But a good Motec will beat anything - so it is the golden rule.

AEM could open up a Viper world that only Motec customers have had to date - for a fraction of the price - so everything is relative.

$4k sounds good to me if complete with sensors and ready to roll. If they don't make money - it won't work for anyone. If I wanted a top quality $995 EFI solution I'd buy rice not a highly modified Viper.

Sorry,

Gen 1 is a completly different beast from Gen 2, and there are no plans at the moment for that application.

1TONY1,

I dont know what crawled up your ***, but since you seem to have an obvious beef with AEM perhaps you should stop reading this topic.

This type of product does not just jump out of a box complete and ready to run. People over at AEM have been working hard ever since the word GO to make this unit available for the Viper comunity, and at the same time make it to the best of their ability.

You should probably go ahead and purchase your Speedpro or whatever it is you wanted and be happy.

Good luck

How will the traction control in the AEM assisted Viper compare to the traction control in a Corvette Z06?

The difference is major, on the zo6 and all other factory traction controls they just cut your power to get traction. Meaning that you need to turn off traction control to obtain any descent performance out of the vehicle.

This TC can be very different since it is programable, and can be taken to the limits of available tire traction.

Hope this explains it.

Russ, Am I not right in saying AEM screwed way up on the release price and they are way behind on their release date ? You would think such a smart company like AEM would have anticipated this up front or atleast kept their mouth shut until it was mostly worked out. If I "had" known all of this back when it was announced, I would have went another direction.......so what has crawled up my asss is that they cost me well over four months of time. Now, since I have waited, I will probably wait and see what the final outcome and price is. . The old post is also informative to people that may be interested in what all the AEM can do.....just look over the screwed up pricing and release date and you will fell better. Perhaps..... "you" should stop reading "my" posts......I'll read AND post back to any f*****g thing I want too. AEM needs to make money.....yes....but they need to look at: If the price point is to high, they will lose sales and possibly dollars. Sell 50 at $1000 profit or 100 at $500 profit hmmmm looks the same to me.

Your looking at more like 6-7k utilizing Motec on the V-10. Possibly cheaper soon. Not sure what you mean by "all the fruit" Barry? :2tu:

AEM did not announce to the general public the release of this unit, it was done by unnamed Viper tunners who were a bit premature at the announcement.

Tony, you trully seem to ge an angry individual perhaps some talks of prozak should occur at your next doctors oppointment.

You seem to just ignore the facts of what the price of this unit will include and just look down at the bottom line. If that is the way you want to look at it then lets make it so.

Cheapest unit on the market for v10----2k(probably a haltech)
Dual UEGO air/fuel analyzation---------1k(cheapest unit on market)
Traction control for Viper ------------2k(dont know anything about it)
Wiring up a viper to make this happen--1-2k(unless you get a viper tunner involved then it will be 5k
Finding out your your car has a short because of the wirring job--Priceless

So now you do the math, and remember all these things will not work in concert nearly as well as the AEM unit will, not to mention they wont have the other hundreds of features. Nitrous control, boost control, etc, etc.....

PS. Every time AEM decides to release an application there seems to be a heckler in the crowd making noise. At the end though they seem to just fade away while the others enjoy their new found tunning freedom.

With what system did you experience things not working nearly as well in concert?

Right now Tony - the only Viper I have is an imaginery one and a blue/white GTS on my display cabinet - I think you knew that :D

I have a passing involvement with one or two you'd know very well - I'll leave it at that. If those that got some help want to say anything that is up to them - I didn't do it for recognition, so won't blow my own trumpet.

So maybe I am all hot air :p

When it comes time to buy and build my own - I'll let it do all the talking for me. Until then - peace brother - You've got a real weapon and glad you can enjoy it and put down some real good times. I look forward to one day seeing you at the track :2tu:

Hey Jr - it's all the hidden costs that follow the basic hardware. It costs NZ$16k (US$10) to properly set up a *** 4 cylinder, the V10 will be more. We don't pay more than you - we are closer to the manufacturer - they're only across the ditch in Australia, so our costs converted to US$ are relative.

You know that there's a lot of labor and tuning to install, set up and fine tune a Motec. You've still got wires hanging out everywhere last time I saw pics of the (for sale) Styker inside - it's a big job. The end result can be awesome, but it is not a plug and play half day exercise, that's my point.

In addition, as far as I know - Motec still don't drive 10 fully sequential injectors, so it can't be run in sequential mode - or are they making an off catalog custom 10 injector sequential unit? That means they'll have less streetability than other options (like AEM) and certainly will fail emissions.

Therefore there is room for something like AEM to bridge the gap between piggy back setups, budget ECU's like Link etc, and Motec at the high end.

Maybe you should not forget that Russ  Really, if you would like to take this to a personal level....I can insult with the best of them.....just let me know. This is the one board that I use restraint on.

You seem to be taking this worse than I am. All I am upset with is I thought I was waiting on an AEM box that was going to cost in the low 2k range. I think it's going to be great....that's why I was waiting. Maybe we can get a real good deal through one of our tuners (one N in tuner) I could shoot a few holes in your pricing schedule listed....but I don't really care.
Also tell me what interest you have....are you going to be selling them or just a user ? I am asking because I am curious as to your angle.

p.s. My bottle of Proza(C)is spelled with a C not a K

Thanks Torque.....you should have reamed me out on that comment. It was stupid, I apologize. You always have good intelligent input that is a benefit to our community. I must have missed my dose of Prozac  Tony

Tony,

All the people at AEM have been long time friends of mine, and I know how hard they work to make things happen. I also know the lengths they go through to make sure a product they release works.

It does not matter if its an air filter or fuel/ignition management everything they do must make at least what they claim, and if it makes no obvious gains they will not build it/sell it.

I have no benefit from helping sell their product except for my own personal use on my car. At the same time I am also the one who kept badgering the owner to make this unit for Vipers(Hence the ability to run 10cyl from start). Unfortunatly the desired date of release fell way short because of the unusual setup the Viper has.

Price as mentioned before should be ignored, if the Viper comunity does not offer competative pricing I will have someone outside the comunity put together a group buy. But I am fairly confident that DC and several others will be fair with their pricing plans.

Good enough? :2tu:

Good to see you two made up! All I know is that I am looking forward to see the production of the AEM units & from what people say it will do a lot for a blown car.
I am hoping for a reasonable price on the unit, you know
WIN - WIN.
I understand there are production & R&D cost but just because the car costs 2 or 3 times as much as another, doesn't mean the unit should. It's simple, just make it fair.

Russ,

I have a DLM car making near 900 RWHP that I am expecting to show up at my house soon. I love the idea of the traction control, but what other benefits can I get from this unit for a supercharged car? The traction control makes sense since I will be in spin city, but when boost comes on as hard as it does and wheels spin up that fast, is the system really going to work with cars in this HP range? Kind of like when you do a serious burnout and then let off the gas it the tires keep spinning for a second or so.

Boost control would be great, but then again, I have a S/C and not a Turbo.

Manny,

Hp is not really an issue, this system has proven it self on the track with front wheel drive cars making same power as you, and on rear wheel drive cars making double.

Your DLM car comes with a motec system I belive, and if that is the case your factory wirring is gone and the motec is wired in. Which means the AEM unit will not work for you, unless you plan on installing the factory harness back.
