Thanks for the plug, but our Rain-de-baffled airbox gains 5-7 HP, about the same as K+N, for only $279....way less than the others, and more like a do-it-yourself.
Which you COULD by the way, since you mentioned 'free mods'
How do I know if I have an aftermarket box or not ?
It has K&N decals on it, and red hoses to the throttle bodies,
and the front of the box is held to the rear of the box with
four lever tension clamps. I assumed it was a stock box with K & N filters and decals, but the filter elements sure fit nice.
Robert, check the way the air temp sensor fits into the passenger side air box. If it's not factory looking then you might have an after market one. I'm not an expert but I've heard something about the sensor going in oddly on after market one's or something like that. Anyway, I'd bet you have a stock box with the stickers.
Sorry Brandon, I guess this is your post isn't it!
Although the K&N's aren't free, you can make the smooth tubes for next to free. I went and bought two feet of marine hosing for mine. The hoses were probably less than $3 and are made of very rigid and extremely smooth inside material.
For another "free" mod, you could cut out your mufflers and cats. The car will be REAL loud though. But you can get a high-flow muffler for very cheap to quiet it down a lot. That is probably your biggest bang for the buck performance upgrade from what I have tried.
