I have a used factory gasket (metal) that I took off a 98 pan when I had the motor built. PM me for more info.
There are atleast two diff gaskets. One some thin material that "looks" like a gasket. The other, Thick Aluminum(like 1/8-3/16") that is more like a shim...
For Gen2's dodge started putting the aluminum one in halfway through '97 so 1997.5 and up should have it for Gen2's. Im not sure about the Gen1.5
If you have the Metal one it Will be reusable. If you have the other one then pick up a used one for cheap from Scharf or a viper owner like me or redsled that has an extra one on the shelf.
According to the online parts guide, the Gen 1 (92-96 RT's) are a different part # than the Gen 2's. Not sure if that is b/c of an actual change in the design (more bolt holes, etc) or if its just because of the different material. Anyone know? I don't mind buying a spare, but just want to be sure I don't end up with a Gen 2 spare that won't fit my car.
My 96' RT/10 service manual, makes it sound like the gasket is reusable. It says "use a new pan gasket,
if necessary " Hopefully mine won't be necessary
Why? Is it making any noise? If not, just keep using good oil and drive it until it drops.............................
No noise that I've heard, but its been recommended by some who are smarter than me to do it now before it eats #3, which seems to be something Vipers have been known to do.
