Sorry these are a little late, I had to travel to Wisconsin on business. We went up to Mid-America Motorplex in Pacific Junction, Iowa this past Saturday to check out Viper Days. A great time was had by all! Here are a few pics that might amuse you...
First off, Jim was tearing up the track in my ol' 2003 and looking good doing it. No worries, that is just yellow tape on the headlights to prevent chipping:
Those stripes look GREAT! And yes, he is Number 0 (this, from the guy with "KINTAMA" on his plates):
I need to help Jim get 18" wheels on this car. The Pilots are WAY too expensive to keep replacing for Viper Days and he is thinking about selling the SRT for a more "pedestrian" track car like a Porsche. Can't let that happen! We figure he can get Kumhos and others for less expense (and better performing than the run-flats) in 18". I will have to do a search for that and figure out the deal about relocating the e-brake. He is an AWESOME guy (great bride too) and we don't want him to leave the Viper fold. My old car is in a great home!
Of course Jim wasn't the only one racing this weekend. Here is a nice little line up:
Even better when you get them to pose for you in formation:
Of course it is those yellow and black cars that really seem to get everybody's attention, even the posers...
Speaking of posers, here is the Kansas City crew sitting on the sidelines. And yes, that is a Boxter S in the middle. Bill drove down the wife's car because he was worried about getting his gorgeous black/silver GTS messed up on the gravel access road. I guess we will forgive him this time.
And get this: The fine folks at Viper Days had pity on poor Bill and awarded him "Best Import" in the Viper Days car show. That is he and his wife in the gray. Other winners included John (Rocket62) for Best Gen I RT/10, Ron for Best Truck, Dawn & Tim for best SRT-10, Tim (Pictureman) for best GTS, and Don for Best Gen II RT/10. Oh, and Yours Truly won Best of Show - seen here getting all chummy with Viper Day's Skip Thomas.
Oh yeah, and the babe in the middle is the famous Nancy Shanno from Woodhouse Dodge. She won for Best Comp Coupe Restoration. And it looks like this:
And it looks great going down the track too!
We had a great time, despite the unusually bitter cold winds that kept most of the general public away this year. We even got to do a few spirited laps around the track during lunch. Nothing like a nice long straightaway to whet your appetite! (my thanks to Jim for the photo)
We look forward to doing this again soon!
