Did a search, but couldn't find anything on this problem.

I have a new (1 month old) '01 GTS. Today at work, my alarm has gone off 3 times for no apparent reason. I have tried reclosing the doors, hatch and hood and wiggling them with the alarm set to see if there was an intermittent contact in one of the switches, but couldn't find anything. Any other switches or ideas I should check out before I take it down to the dealer where they won't be able to reproduce the problem? Is the alarm strictly activated by door switches or are there other sensors as well?

Thanks for any ideas,
--- Ken

Check your passenger side hood sensor, just to the inside of the hinge assy. It is a pencil-diameter plunger.

Pull it UP fully, with slight (ie 90-degree) twisting motion. Notice if the sensor is indeed tight. Either that sensor is too low, or your hood is too high. If the switch is set too sensitive, as the hood heat-soaks after driving/alarming, it GROWS and sets off the alarm. Also, the sun can grow the hood and cause this if set to "thin"

Common.

JonB,
Thanks for the hints. I fiddled with the hood alarm plunger and didn't find anything obviously wrong, but the alarm didn't go off again after fiddling with it either.

I had already made an appointment with the Viper tech and took it in this morning and they ended up ordering a new door solenoid assy. The tech wasn't there, so I am not sure if this was to fix the alarm problem or to address an issue with the passenger door not always opening if the driver door was open, or both.

By the way, he mentioned that there are motion or similar type sensors in these cars as well as the door and hatch switches because I was wondering if passing semi's could be setting it off since it is parked close to the freeway. Anyone know the straight scoop on this?

Thanks again for your help,
--- Ken
